This has been kind of a disappointing April Fools' Day because:

1) Homestar Runner didn't update at all today, even though they did for April Fools' Day 2014, 2015, and 2016, and April Fools and Halloween are almost the only times they ever update nowadays.
2) I don't think many people noticed my April Fools prank at all.

For reference, my April Fools prank was this entry; however, when I first posted it (on March 31 in my time zone, but late enough that it was April 1 already for some of you), it was an exact copy of my first entry. Then I waited a few minutes or so and changed it to a copy of a different past entry in the same way... then changed it to another after a few more minutes, and so on - basically, if I was at my computer, I'd change the entry anywhere from once an hour to once every few minutes. (At first. I gradually updated it less and less often because it seemed like no one was noticing...)

By "exact copy", that means including the subject line, repost button, userpic, tags, mood, music, location... basically, everything except the timestamp, the comments, and friends-only status [though, of course, the only friends-only entries I used were ones that probably would've been fine being public]. And anything that I intended to change each time but accidentally forgot sometimes. Though if I used an entry I'd posted in [livejournal.com profile] _dreams_, [livejournal.com profile] autism, or [livejournal.com profile] asperger, I added a notice saying that it was cross-posted (even though I don't think copying a community entry to my own journal years later for April Fools' Day actually counts as cross-posting).

I chose the entries semi-randomly, sometimes by going to my Calendar for random years and months and picking a random entry I'd feel comfortable posting again, and sometimes by just putting in notable entries that I remember and wanted to include in this prank at some point. Some entries were used more than once.

And just to mess with your heads even more, I thought it might be fun to come up with a hypothetical FUTURE entry and add it into the mix! That's what the 2023 year in review is for. It ended up being my favorite thing about this prank, so I left that one up significantly longer than any other single entry.

Now that April Fools' Day is over, all the entries I ended up using are listed below for posterity. (Don't expect the repost buttons to work correctly, though...)

The entries that you could've sworn that you'd seen already and/or that they said something completely different a few minutes ago, in order of their first use in this prank )

Also, yes, I'm still retaking quizzes I took years ago to see how things have changed, and I'm still taking new quizzes. I just haven't posted the results of either in a couple of weeks.

When I retook "How Evil Are You?" I got "not evil", which is what I got over seven years ago, so I'll just link to the entry where I posted the original result instead of reposting it.

But the next one I retook, I did get a different result.

Old result from over seven years ago:

Anycattlenotingway, here's the obligatory quiz:

You are not really Geeky!
QuizGalaxy.com
You may like a few things that are geeky, but overall you aren’t really much of a geek.

Oh yeah? Well, I know the last digit of pi! It's...uh...green.

Get the conch

(Since the people I just added as friends are probably wondering: Yes, my writing style seven years ago was full of inside jokes, mostly inspired by backwards lyrics. That's why I have a glossary. :) )

Since I'm not into every single thing that's stereotypically geeky, I think my old result makes more sense than either of my new results. Yes, I actually retook it twice - the first time, I got "not a geek", but I took it again since there were a few answers that I wanted to change as soon as I clicked on them, so then I got:

You are a Super Geek!
You are into everything that is geeky – which is hard because there are so many types of geeks. You are very smart and have a great imagination. People who call you a geek are just jealous, right?

I went from "not a geek" to "super geek" just like that? I think that quiz is broken. :)

Explanation to those who are new here: I decided a couple of years ago that I'd start revisiting every quiz/survey I've posted on LJ five years later to see how things have changed. But then I procrastinated so long that I'm having to do some of them seven years later instead.

As I've mentioned a while back, I plan on replacing some of my userpics with more legible versions. (even though I've procrastinated that for probably at least a year now...)

Since I knew that doing that will cause me to lose track of what order I added my userpics, I kept a list of my userpics in my profile in order added - but I'm starting to run out of room on my profile now, so I moved it here and reformatted it into a table that hopefully looks better than the old layout.

Note that this excludes the following:
- Old versions of these userpics
- Alternate versions of some of these that I made to protest SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/etc. a few years ago

Here they are! )

No, I haven't turned into my exact opposite! :) (I hope that link still works once this entry goes up. If not, just go to my previous entry.)

DISCLAIMER: Just because something was in my not-interests list doesn't necessarily mean that I hate it. Of course there are things that I actually hate in there (e.g. essays), but there's also things that I merely find overrated (e.g. zombies, Captain Falcon, Chuck Norris, Team Fortress), or are fandoms that I can see myself getting into eventually but am not currently into (e.g. Game of Thrones, Dragonball Z), or are things that actually are the opposite, or an opposite, of my actual interests (e.g. ESTJ instead of INFP, atheism instead of Christianity), and so on and so forth. And, of course, unless you're new here (or haven't been here in a while, or something), you know the score with the word "feminism" - the actual definition of the word is something I agree with, but the word itself has become so associated with the extremes of feminism that I don't really like to identify with it.

Unfortunately, due to the conference being today, by the time this entry goes up, I probably still won't know if anyone fell for it. Or even if anyone hates me for liking Comic Sans - to the point that visiting Ban Comic Sans or any page that links to it (except, hopefully, this one) is so traumatic for me, I'm not even going to make sure that link actually goes to it. Please don't kill me...

In fact, the timing of the conference prevented this prank from being exactly what I wanted to do - I wanted to actually replace the interests list for April Fool's Day (and even leave it that way for about a week in case anyone wanted to explore the Dungeon of Not Matt1993 or Starship Not Matt1993 or something). I've had this idea since *checks* January 23 at the latest and was really hoping I'd get to do it this way, but April Fool's Day ended up being the day before I present, and there's no way to schedule a temporary replacement for the interests list like there is for scheduled entries.

So I had to make up a plausible-sounding reason other than "I'm trying to do an April Fool's prank on LJ at a time when I may or may not have access to a computer, let alone one that I'd feel comfortable accessing LJ on" for why I would come up with a new interests list but not actually put it in my profile right away. "There's more than 150 and so I need to narrow it down" was the best I thought of, but as it turns out, my not-interests list had less than 150 when I thought of that idea, so I actually had to add more just because of that.

I considered just waiting until next year to try this prank, but with my luck, I'll probably have even less free time in 2017. :(
matt1993: (dr. octagonapus & watch)
I just looked at the interests in my profile for the first time in a while and...

WHOA. It's WAY outdated.

Unfortunately I can't fix it just yet either because I've been busy lately. I had enough time to come up with a new interests list:

But that's over 150 interests, and I don't have time right now to narrow it down to just 150. Hopefully I will this weekend. At least this gives you a chance to marvel at just how NOT ME my old interests list is, I guess.

And I still need to come up with a new default userpic... and like 40 or 50 new non-default userpics, and a new profile, and a new profile name...

Right now I'm wondering what the next Strong Bad E-mail will be like. You should check them out (on homestarrunner.com); they are really funny and were the inspiration for some of my funny screenshots (again, more info on profile page).

...

Oh, it's no use. The past is gone now (obviously not as much so as I pretended it was in my previous entry, but still), and my journal may never again become as interesting as it used to be no matter how hard I try. Not that an entry that's partly about PrtSc Land could be interesting anyway...

In other news, remember how I said most of my classes this semester were easier than I expected? I don't even think I specifically said that I hadn't had any essays yet, and yet the day after I posted that entry, I got an essay assignment. In Programming Languages class, of all things. Due December 6, but still...

Why does that happen EVERY time I post that classes are going well?!?

Hmm...

I also expected most of my professors to give out a lot of Enya concert tickets and pre-release copies of Super Mario 3D World, but that still hasn't happened at all this semester.

In a brief moment of insanity, decide that this is interesting enough to repost

Yep - I created my LJ account on August 19, 2007. Sad how the anniversary of LJ should happen to be the day after I accidentally deleted a lot of LJ-related stuff, though... in fact, I was so busy after that happened, I didn't get to finish this post until the day after the anniversary of my LJ. :(

I also wanted to include LJ comment stats (which I said I'd do every three months starting on the fourth anniversary, but ended up deciding to just do once every year), but since this post is already late, I'll post them later.

Spring Break

matt1993: (2010 nnwm procrastinator)
IT'S SPRING BREAK!!!! Now I can finally get the sleep I need to keep myself from missing or being late to most of my classes!

As you can probably tell, even though I don't have an English class this semester, this year has been so tough that I haven't had the chance to check LJ much. For a while, I was procrastinating checking my friends page because it seemed like the only reason I wouldn't be able to do my homework or finish the really long post I've been talking about. Though, now I've been done with that post since February and I'm only waiting for [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 to get back to me about it (I wanted her and [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien to proofread it to make sure it made sense), so procrastinating checking my friends page now is just force of habit. Rest assured, I'll start catching up on it soon!

At first, this semester was better than last semester - no essays, not much homework, and I got to all of my classes on time. But now, I just get worse and worse at all of these - especially getting to Computer Science on time, which is particularly bad because my instructor for that class will be my academic advisor starting next semester and thus I need to not get on her bad side. And I'm still not any closer to finishing my creative vortexes faster than I come up with them.

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02, [livejournal.com profile] hattaloveis18, [livejournal.com profile] arpoksai, [livejournal.com profile] haleydunphy, [livejournal.com profile] jessamort, [livejournal.com profile] littleevilone, [livejournal.com profile] venturia2010, [livejournal.com profile] spikeyannie, [livejournal.com profile] inever, [livejournal.com profile] dreadfulpenny81, [livejournal.com profile] unowncafe, [livejournal.com profile] adrianacecilia and [livejournal.com profile] ariadnechan! And happy current birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gt_814 and [livejournal.com profile] irish_ileana!

Tell everyone I'm back
matt1993: (conga of the apocalypse)
This past week has been pretty stressful, because even with [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien's help, both my Computer Science essay and my career portfolio took all weekend because I kept procrastinating throughout the week. But at least it's over now and there's much less homework this week!

Remember those unusual online clocks I found? I found another one, which was part of the reason I was procrastinating so much:

http://base36.org/

This one doesn't seem to have as much potential as the rest, though; it's only synchronized to seconds, thus causing the other units to be "36 seconds", "about one third of an hour", "about 13 hours", "about 19½ days", and "about 23 months", which don't correlate very well to the normal clock or calendar system. Still interesting, though!

Well, tonight, it was the English paper that's due tomorrow. I've been procrastinating it and unable to focus on it for so long that I had to stay up all night working on it, only to just now, at almost 6 in the morning, finish all the parts of it that I don't need my sister [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien's advice on. (i.e., the introduction and first body paragraph) And, to make matters worse, I have a report for College Connections due next Monday and a 1500-2000 word essay in Computer Science that I haven't even started on (aside from some notes) due next Thursday. And since P_A can't help me with it this weekend or next week, they might as well all be due tomorrow. :'(

EDIT ON MAY 12, 2018: THIS IS THE OLD VERSION OF MY GLOSSARY... or at least the oldest version that was a sticky entry rather than on my profile, anyway. THE NEW GLOSSARY IS... nowhere, yet, but I'm going to FINALLY get around to updating this glossary for the first time in years after I'm done fixing all my entries on both LJ and DW.

I made this sticky entry in 2011, but then I didn't update it much after that and left it outdated for nearly SEVEN YEARS - long enough that I decide I might as well preserve the old version of the glossary, but make it no longer sticky in favor of a NEW sticky entry with the updated glossary.

Everything below this point is as the entry originally appeared, except I got rid of the lj-like buttons. The former subject line was simply "Glossary of Matt1993isms".

----

I finally got around to updating this glossary and moving it to a sticky post so that it wouldn't clutter up my profile and I could have LJ-cuts to jump to certain sections!

Although the whole point of these multiple LJ-cuts is for ease of navigation (i.e. if I reference a Matt1993ism in the definition of a Matt1993ism in a different section, I'd link to the proper section), I haven't had the time to actually go through and add all these links, so stay tuned for that. I also thought about adding artwork for certain entries *cough*/crazymegavideo/*cough*, so stay tuned for that too. :)

As I said in the old glossary, if you spot a Matt1993ism I used that I haven't defined here, or if FoxReplace messes up the "pucker up because it's time for lunch" entry again, etc., please let me know :)

EDIT: Added some more Matt1993isms and tags, but still need to add the links and artwork. I'm also pretty sure there was another Matt1993ism that I still forgot to add...

So I finally finish editing my first college paper, then I glance at the word count and it just happens to be 666. :O

matt1993: (vs. giant enya fan)
(x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] the_number_206)

So I was looking at the profiles of my teachers for the first semester of college, and as it turns out, the number of my English teacher's office is 206. Especially interesting is the fact that it should be my college English teacher, because so far, my high school English teacher is the only teacher that I've mentioned any of my findings involving 206 (and other numbers) to. Hmm...

Is this a coincidence? Answer with a 206-word essay.
matt1993: (homestar graduate epitaph)
Right now, I'm unsure of whether I should go ahead and go to college in fall 2011 like I'd planned, sit out for a semester, or sit out for a year (though if I sit out, I'll have to get a part-time job instead).

Reasons I should go ahead and go to college:
- I'd have at least 3 years and 11 months to rid my mind of creative tumors before I get a job, whereas if I wait a semester or a year and get a part-time job first, I could end up having to finish them all up today.
- I've already decided a schedule of classes, and what seems like a pretty easy schedule (for me) at that; there are 2 math classes, a computer class, freshman English, and some sort of "intro to college" class (I think it's called Campus Connect or something like that). In fact, this means that freeing my mind of creative tumors before college might not be as important as freeing my mind of them before getting a job.
- My family has already paid money for it (both for college itself and for stuff for my dorm).
- The college I plan to go to has an autism support program, and while I didn't get into it due to the waiting list, the professors are apparently used to autistic students.
- The HAS (High School Aerospace Scholars for those that are new or new-ish here) camp was the closest thing to a job that I've had so far, and I made a fool of myself there way more often than I did in high school (which, of course, is the closest thing I've had to college).

Reasons I should wait a semester or year:
- If I go to college this fall, I'll only have 2 months to get rid of all my creative tumors before college, but if I wait a semester I'll have 6 months and if I wait a year I'll have 14 months.
- Considering that I'll have an English class and that the Campus Connect class or whatever it's called <pun intended="false">has</pun> essays, my schedule might pull a HAS and turn out to have 2 difficult essays every 2 weeks or something even though I was told that the essays will be easy and infrequent.

So...

Stuck between this journal and...well...your journal
matt1993: (infinite-paragraph essay)
Well, I managed to procrastinate the remaining notes and outline for my research paper until tomorrow again, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't due the day after that. I also have to write a college scholarship essay by next Monday, and even though it's due after my research paper is, I have to write it first because it's supposedly more important.

Two quizzes:

You Are a Blue M&M

You are an affable and likable person. You are a natural people-pleaser.

You change your mind constantly. Everything ends up sounding good to you.

You like to keep your options open, but your mind isn't muddled. You're a very clear thinker.

You love people, and you're an optimist about everyone you meet. Friendship is important to you.

How am I an optimist?

You Are a Newspaper

You enjoy order and structure. You don't like it when things change much from day to day.

You are primarily concerned with the present. You don't like to speculate about the future.

You are straightforward and honest. You pride yourself on being easy to read.

You are a people person. You wish you could connect with every single person in the world.

I actually find newspapers hard to read. Hard to read without making a mess of papers everywhere, that is. I also REALLY like speculating on the future, if my use of the word "apocalypse" in this entry's subject line is any indication.

In what ways has reposting shaped your life?

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
