(For those of you new here: every year since I discovered http://www.museumofconceptualart.com/accomplished/index.html when I was 15, I've posted what other people accomplished when they were my age. Usually, this is a birthday post, but sometimes I forget until a little later. One time I even forgot about it until my next birthday!)

← Age 23 Age 25 →

At age 24:

Nelly Bly made a solo trip around the world in less than 80 days for the New York World, beating Phileas Fogg's fictional record.

Radioastronomy grad student Jocelyn Bell Burnell observed an unknown signal from outer space; this resulted in the discovery of pulsars.

John Couch Adams became the first person to predict the position of a planetary mass beyond Uranus.

Johannes Kepler defended the Copernican theory and described the structure of the solar system.

Entrepreneur Ted Turner took over his father's billboard advertising business. He later launched CNN.

Tracy Chapman released her first album, winning three Grammies.

Scottish physician Mungo Park became the first European to reach the West African interior.

Edgar Allen Poe won a $50 prize for the story "MS. Found in a Bottle."

Noah Webster published a spelling book.

Isaac Pitman devised the first scientific shorthand system.

Security guard Frank Wills alerted D.C. police to the Watergate break-ins.

Rainey Fellows donated a kidney to her (now ex-) boyfriend. They aren't together now, but he's doing very well. They're still friends.

Helene got a high score of 170440 in the popular online game Robot Unicorn Attack.

Tasha looked into her five-year-old son's eyes and decided to leave her abusive husband. Then she beat the odds and didn't go back even once.

David Hosei started his ninth business, eFamily.

I just looked at the interests in my profile for the first time in a while and...

WHOA. It's WAY outdated.

Homestar Runner?!

Garfield??!

MARIO?!?!

When was the last time I liked those?!

Unfortunately I can't fix it just yet either because I've been busy lately. I had enough time to come up with a new interests list:

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm finally gonna post what I gave and received for Christmas even though it's still an incomplete list. I wasn't trying to make posting this around the new year and posting my New Year's memes around Christmas a tradition by doing it this way two years in a row, but I guess it happened anyway.

← 2012 2014 →

What I got:

- Super Mario 3D World (as I've mentioned) from Mom (and she also preordered Mario Kart 8)
- Wreck-It Ralph game for 3DS
- Mario Party: Island Tour (although I can't play it all the way yet because my R button broke again :( )
- Portal and Portal 2 from [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 (The first two Xbox games I've ever owned. I'd realized this year that I've thought "This Xbox game looks cool, but I don't think it'd be worth getting an Xbox just for this one game" enough times that it might be worth asking for an Xbox and some of those games for Christmas. Except I eventually decided I'd rather have PC versions of them, so that's what I got. :) )
- DVD of Monsters University
- The Hyperbole and a Half book and Garfield: From the Trash Bin from [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien
- "I ♥ Enya" T-shirt (contrary to what this userpic implies, I didn't have such a shirt until now) from Jake
- Garfield "I hate Mondays" 2014 calendar from Mom
- GameStop gift card from my roommate
- $50 from my grandparents

What I gave:

- I got Mom an Air Supply CD, a new pair of headphones, and a butterfly needlepoint
- I got Dad a subscription to a magazine I thought he'd be interested in
- I got my grandparents a turtle solar light for their garden, since they like turtles
- I got [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien a book or two, some supplies for knitting, and I think something else
- I got Jake some supplies for painting
- I got Nace filters for his humidifier
- I got my roommate a DVD of the Mortal Instruments movie

And there was more (because I know I got ellaina02 something), but I don't remember it all now and I probably have some of these mixed up with things that I considered giving until I decided on something else to give.

Yes, I'm a bad person for not remembering what I got everyone. You don't need to remind me :(

Speaking of me being a bad person... what entry was the last straw now? Because a couple of recent entries in my journal don't have any comments at all, so I feel the need to ask again...

- My annual Garfield calendar from Mom
- Paid account extension from Mom and renewed add-on userpics from [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02. Notice that I finally took down my blackout userpics from the WCIT-12 protest and started using userpics other than the one blackout userpic that didn't become inactive again!
- Assorted candy from Mom
- Mario pajama pants from Jake
- Pocketknife from my grandfather, and $50 from him and his wife

What I gave for Christmas:

(By the way, [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien and [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02, I added a few things after the proofreading)

What's sad is that recently-- Well, okay, not that recently, due to the long amount of time it took to write this entry, have it proofread, and continue to worry about whether or not it makes sense even after I had it proofread. But last October, I was hit with a realization similar to Character 15's, and I'm not even a randomly generated webcomic character.

For those of you new here, it's become a tradition for me to post comics made with the Garfield Randomizer after I've been on hiatus for a while. And I've also promised to post some comics made with Garkov as well, but I never did, and I found about two more similar randomizer things in the meantime, so here you go!

I don't have any vision-impaired transcripts for my older ones yet, but I've added that as yet another entry on my to-do list :)

These unique interactive clocks have been distracting me all day today, so I thought I'd post an entry about them so that at least the idea for this entry won't distract me...

http://thecolourclock.co.uk/ - Takes the hour, minute, and second, divides them by 23, 59, and 59 (respectively), multiplies them by 255, and changes the red, green, and blue values (respectively) of the background color to those numbers. The effect can be pretty relaxing! Currently it is blue in my time zone, since it's just after midnight.

http://www.ruinsofmorning.net/flash/hexclock.php - Hexadecimal clock with 16 hours in a day, 256 minutes in an hour, and 16 seconds in a minute. Currently reads 0:32.D.

http://www.alphabetclock.com/ - Uses letters instead of numbers, with A=0, B=1, ..., Z=25. 26 seconds in a minute, 26 minutes in an hour, 26 hours in a day, 26 days in a month, 26 months in a year, 26 years in a century, and 26 centuries in a millenium. Since it's synchronized to UTC, it currently reads FJSYD:STM even though it's just after midnight right now. (FJSYD: is the date and :STM is the time; the first few letters of the date can be omitted depending on how specific you want to be, like how you might abbreviate 2011 to '11, say "October 24" with no year, or say "the 24th" with no month or year) Also includes a time and date converter.

Interesting finding - :ENYA is 11:11:11 AM in my time zone...

http://www.purplemassgroup.com/upload/wtf/index.html - Custom version of the previous clock that shows two more digits of the time and includes a calendar.

It's reposting time! Not really - :REPOST was a couple of hours ago

EDIT WAY LATER: It turns out that there are two guys in my college dorm named Mark, so in order to keep things from getting weird if either of them gets a LiveJournal (if they don't have one already) and friend me, I have renamed my possible other personality Mark1993 rather than just Mark.

I did pretty well on my Spanish final. I didn't get to finish translating the whole thing I had written, but I got most of it translated, and it's past the 100-word minimum anyway. My teacher says that I can finish it after Christmas break (and she's allowing 3 of my classmates to do the same). Yay for Christmas break!!

Also, you know how I am easily distracted while listening or reading because any given word or phrase might remind me of something else that I start thinking about instead until it reminds me of something else, and so on - and it also happens just because I'm bored? Well, for a while now I've thought of the kind of mistakes I make while doing that as my subconscious taking over and trying (and almost always failing) to do everything based entirely on instinct like a robot. I've recently started reading The Bird's Nest by Shirley Jackson, which is about a girl with multiple personalities, and I got to thinking: What if I have multiple (or double, at least) personalities, and the robotic/instinct/habit decisions aren't made by my subconscious, but by my other personality?

EDIT IN 2018: This sounds so dumb now. I'm putting it under a cut. )

This time, I'm just gonna put the new ideas (as well as one older idea that I somehow missed the last two times) in this post. The rest are here.

Let's All Throw Books at Myrtle - From Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Myrtle says, "Let's all throw books at Myrtle because she can't feel it. Ten points if it goes through her stomach. FIFTY POINTS IF IT GOES THROUGH HER HEAD!!"
Officious 2010 NaNoWriMo Procrastinator - The NaNoWriMo marathon guy runs to the left with his pencil, with the eraser in front of him. The "officious" is recycled from a rejected userpic idea - I wanted to make a userpic of Sammy Davis Jr. Jr.'s "Officious Seeing Eye B****" shirt, but I wanted to keep my userpics free of cussing (even cuss words that are used with their actual meaning like this).
Pac-Man Massacre - From a Whose Line is it Anyway? Props skit - a team put two yellow Pac-Man-like props on the ground and one of them said something like, "This is the worst Pac-Man massacre I've ever seen!" This is the one that I had forgotten to include in the last two polls.
You Always Disagree With Me - From Garfield & Friends. Bo: You always disagree with me! Lanolin: I do not! Bo: See, you just disagreed with me! Lanolin: I did not! Bo: Okay, fine, you never disagree with me. Lanolin: Yes, I do!

EDIT ON NOVEMBER 19, 2017: Aw, the second one seems to be gone now :( The question was "How tall is Apocalypse?" and the answer was something like "it is 100 meters and ur an idiot". If I remembered it right. Which, now that the apocalypse has happened for real as far as I'm concerned, means there's about 23.71 days in a meter apparently. :P

Good Morning Heartache
What is something you worry about everyday? How long has it been plaguing you? Do you think you'll ever overcome it?

Answer View Answers

Saying/doing stupid things. I'd say the first time I thought about something I've done and decided it was stupid was in fourth grade, so that means it's been plaguing me for 7 years. I don't think I'll ever overcome it since I have a problem with random associations in which a word or phrase could remind me of something else that I get distracted by and start thinking about until a word or phrase from it reminds me of another thing, etc.; thus, any given word or phrase could ultimately remind me of something stupid I've said or done even if it's completely unrelated. (In fact, I'd say that about 20 to 50% of the times I've gotten distracted like this, at least one of my random thoughts was about something stupid I'd done.)

And, of course, it doesn't help that I keep doing stupid things... :(

So, as I said in my answer to the Writer's Block question, I'm probably gonna end up doing ALL of my remaining homework today. All I have left is one of the exam essay notecards, actually writing my essay on The Great Gatsby (since I made a notecard for that too), and my HAS stuff. 50 minutes until [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien gets back from tutoring Reagan and helps me with my essays some more.

Also, recently I started making an alphabetical list of all of the subject lines in my LJ entries with the post number for each one for my 300th entry.

Since this is my 300th entry... )

Nice try, but I can crash LJ's server WAY faster than you

Repost to Lover’s Lane

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
