matt1993: (homestar essence of gullibility)
(music tag should be: Snippets of Mario, Kid Icarus, SSB, BtVS, Enya, Dido, Céline Dion, Sarah McLachlan, Moya Brennan, Matchbox 20, Rascal Flatts, & Savage Garden music thrown together randomly in Audacity)

This has been kind of a disappointing April Fools' Day because:

1) Homestar Runner didn't update at all today, even though they did for April Fools' Day 2014, 2015, and 2016, and April Fools and Halloween are almost the only times they ever update nowadays.
2) I don't think many people noticed my April Fools prank at all.

For reference, my April Fools prank was this entry; however, when I first posted it (on March 31 in my time zone, but late enough that it was April 1 already for some of you), it was an exact copy of my first entry. Then I waited a few minutes or so and changed it to a copy of a different past entry in the same way... then changed it to another after a few more minutes, and so on - basically, if I was at my computer, I'd change the entry anywhere from once an hour to once every few minutes. (At first. I gradually updated it less and less often because it seemed like no one was noticing...)

By "exact copy", that means including the subject line, repost button, userpic, tags, mood, music, location... basically, everything except the timestamp, the comments, and friends-only status [though, of course, the only friends-only entries I used were ones that probably would've been fine being public]. And anything that I intended to change each time but accidentally forgot sometimes. Though if I used an entry I'd posted in [livejournal.com profile] _dreams_, [livejournal.com profile] autism, or [livejournal.com profile] asperger, I added a notice saying that it was cross-posted (even though I don't think copying a community entry to my own journal years later for April Fools' Day actually counts as cross-posting).

I chose the entries semi-randomly, sometimes by going to my Calendar for random years and months and picking a random entry I'd feel comfortable posting again, and sometimes by just putting in notable entries that I remember and wanted to include in this prank at some point. Some entries were used more than once.

And just to mess with your heads even more, I thought it might be fun to come up with a hypothetical FUTURE entry and add it into the mix! That's what the 2023 year in review is for. It ended up being my favorite thing about this prank, so I left that one up significantly longer than any other single entry.

Now that April Fools' Day is over, all the entries I ended up using are listed below for posterity. (Don't expect the repost buttons to work correctly, though...)

The entries that you could've sworn that you'd seen already and/or that they said something completely different a few minutes ago, in order of their first use in this prank )
matt1993: (updated prtsc land me)
Four things to mention:

1) I moved into my dorm today... and it was REALLY stressful, as usual. :( And I have so much to do tomorrow... I know I said I'd move into the dorm Monday, but then I found out I'd get to wait later before I moved in.
2) Last Wednesday was the 9th anniversary of the original version of PrtSc Land, and I still don't have a USB floppy drive. So remember how I said I was planning on remaking PSL and putting it up on LiveJournal starting on the 10th or 12th or (some other nice number)th anniversary? It's probably not going to be for the 10th anniversary...
3) Lately I've been working on an Excel spreadsheet with the dates, subject lines, userpic keywords, URLs, etc. of every entry I've posted on LiveJournal - AND notes on what I hope to update in each entry eventually, like adding tags, fixing broken images, etc. so that I can keep track of it all more easily. It's far from being done (even just for entries in my own journal), but I'm hoping to get all that maintenance I've been meaning to do on my old entries finished as soon as I can!
4) Today is the 8th anniversary of my LiveJournal! And, for once, I'm doing the LJ comment stats entry on time!
Although on my computer, bar graphs have lately been looking messed up in entries like this one. Does it do that for anyone else - in this or the other LJ Comment Stats entries?

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm finally gonna post what I gave and received for Christmas even though it's still an incomplete list. I wasn't trying to make posting this around the new year and posting my New Year's memes around Christmas a tradition by doing it this way two years in a row, but I guess it happened anyway.

← 2012 2014 →

What I got:

- Super Mario 3D World (as I've mentioned) from Mom (and she also preordered Mario Kart 8)
- Wreck-It Ralph game for 3DS
- Mario Party: Island Tour (although I can't play it all the way yet because my R button broke again :( )
- Portal and Portal 2 from [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 (The first two Xbox games I've ever owned. I'd realized this year that I've thought "This Xbox game looks cool, but I don't think it'd be worth getting an Xbox just for this one game" enough times that it might be worth asking for an Xbox and some of those games for Christmas. Except I eventually decided I'd rather have PC versions of them, so that's what I got. :) )
- DVD of Monsters University
- The Hyperbole and a Half book and Garfield: From the Trash Bin from [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien
- "I ♥ Enya" T-shirt (contrary to what this userpic implies, I didn't have such a shirt until now) from Jake
- Garfield "I hate Mondays" 2014 calendar from Mom
- GameStop gift card from my roommate
- $50 from my grandparents

What I gave:

- I got Mom an Air Supply CD, a new pair of headphones, and a butterfly needlepoint
- I got Dad a subscription to a magazine I thought he'd be interested in
- I got my grandparents a turtle solar light for their garden, since they like turtles
- I got [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien a book or two, some supplies for knitting, and I think something else
- I got Jake some supplies for painting
- I got Nace filters for his humidifier
- I got my roommate a DVD of the Mortal Instruments movie

And there was more (because I know I got ellaina02 something), but I don't remember it all now and I probably have some of these mixed up with things that I considered giving until I decided on something else to give.

Yes, I'm a bad person for not remembering what I got everyone. You don't need to remind me :(

Speaking of me being a bad person... what entry was the last straw now? Because a couple of recent entries in my journal don't have any comments at all, so I feel the need to ask again...

Night tremors
What keeps you up at night?

Answer View Answers

Well, tonight, it was the English paper that's due tomorrow. I've been procrastinating it and unable to focus on it for so long that I had to stay up all night working on it, only to just now, at almost 6 in the morning, finish all the parts of it that I don't need my sister [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien's advice on. (i.e., the introduction and first body paragraph) And, to make matters worse, I have a report for College Connections due next Monday and a 1500-2000 word essay in Computer Science that I haven't even started on (aside from some notes) due next Thursday. And since P_A can't help me with it this weekend or next week, they might as well all be due tomorrow. :'(

I had an appointment scheduled for today at the disability office to determine what accommodations I would need at 10 AM. However, I woke up after 9 today, got in the shower at 10:01, and got out at 10:thirty-something.

Then, when I finally got to the room that I thought the appointment was at, it was locked. So I had to call my mom and ask her what room it was in, and finally found the right room - just before the person I was going to talk to reached the end of her shift, so I had to reschedule for 2:30 PM on Monday. AFTER my first three college classes. Hopefully I can get through the first day without accommodations.

Yesterday was actually pretty good, though! :)

Repost this entry an hour late
matt1993: (no-edged sword)
(what I wanted to put for the music tag: "Dr. Mario - Chill (SSBB version), Super Mario Galaxy - Speedy Comet and Final Bowser, Enya - Cursum Perficio backwards, and Sarah McLachlan - Black all at once and in G Major")

I visited the college that I am the most interested in from Sunday to Monday, staying overnight in the dorm (like I'd done before at another college).

Although the first day was pretty good, the second day ruined it for me. It all started when the fire alarm went off at 12:30 AM for no reason. Once I realized that it wasn't just imagination, I was hit with the realization that I hadn't quite memorized the fire escape route, so my plan was to just run through random hallways on the floor I was on until I either found the elevator (because I hadn't remembered "oh yeah, I can't use the elevator during a fire or fire drill" yet) or someone who knew where it was. Fortunately, this was actually much sooner than I expected - I heard some guy's voice so I followed him down the stairs and outside the building. Even though there wasn't a fire - the fire alarm came on by accident - it was clear from right then that I wouldn't get anywhere near enough sleep that night, since breakfast was at 7 and I hadn't even fallen asleep once yet. Especially since, in my no-common-sense hurry to get out of my room, I forgot to take my room key with me and ended up having to borrow the master key. Which I accidentally used to open the door to the room next to mine at first.

And, as expected, I briefly woke up and went back to sleep several times starting at 6, eventually becoming awake enough to get up at around 7:30 or 8. By then, my roommate was already gone, and only a few people were downstairs, none of whom knew where to go either. I ended up missing breakfast completely - and I thought I was late that one time at Camp El Tesoro when I got to breakfast just a few minutes before it was over! Throughout the rest of the day, I also got separated from my group and ended up lost 3 more times. :(

The lack of common sense apparently didn't end after the trip was over, either - I somehow managed to post even more comments in [livejournal.com profile] asperger that I ended up regretting despite the fact that:

A) I didn't even mention a cure for autism this time, and
B) I had a feeling it would happen just like I knew this, this, and the fact that I probably haven't heard from Schrödinger's Enya in awhile because I acted like the paparazzi countless times would.

Will I ever say anything that I won't end up regretting? :'(

Speaking of those comments in asperger, people there have pointed out that "creative tumors" isn't a good term for, well, creative tumors because it's kinda unpleasant-sounding, but I can't think of anything better. Do any of you have any ideas?

Things that won't work for a renaming of creative tumors:
- daydreaming (that would imply that I am creative enough to come up with these ideas almost constantly, rather than every now and then randomly)
- creative spasms (saying "4 or 5 years ago, the most creative spasms I had at once was four" implies that I thought about four ideas at the same time, when really I mean to say that four ideas kinda took turns distracting me)

NO MORE MONDAYS LEFT OF SCHOOL!!

I still have the meeting about the senior trip tomorrow, the actual senior trip from May 15 to 19, and the actual graduation ceremony for 28th, but for all intents and purposes...

I JUST GRADUATED!!! What should my epitaph say?

Matt1993, do you even have half a brain?
matt1993: (pass)
I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but:

NO MORE FRIDAYS LEFT OF SCHOOL!!

All that's left is next Monday, the senior trip, and graduation!!

8 reposts a week
matt1993: (aha!)
In about 27 minutes, I have to leave for a college visit. This time, I'm gonna be staying overnight in a dorm with current students, so I'll be back Monday. Let's hope that nobody asks me whether or not I listen to a really popular band...

Also, yesterday I uploaded my 100th userpic! Yay!! Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] an_bhean_airgid for posting the comment that required me to upload this userpic for my reply!

Also, something I've been wondering: Y'see, whenever I get a LiveJournal comment and am worried about what it might say, for some reason I always scroll straight to the bottom of the comment notification as quick as possible, then scroll back up slowly to the comment. Does anyone else do this? And if so, do you have any idea why it would feel safer to scroll all the way down and then back up even though it'd be the same comment either way?

Also, my left ear starting hurting for no apparent reason last Tuesday (it felt like it was either broken or constantly being pushed on), but today it doesn't seem to hurt anymore. What's weird about that is that it started hurting exactly 659 days after my first 666 dream (the number 659 appeared in a semi-recent dream) and exactly a week before the Day of Frozen Pets. Coincidence? Then again, I never had a dream with 664 in it, so the day it stopped hurting doesn't seem to be significant...

Finally, a quiz:

You Are Math

You are simply brilliant. You are bright, intelligent, and creative.

You've always had a head for numbers, and people are amazed by the math you can mentally do.

You are comfortable with theories. Abstract ideas and concepts delight you.

You think on a whole other plane. You see patterns and logic where others see chaos.

Creative, no. Everything else, spot on.

Post to--OW MY EAR!!--your journal!
matt1993: (infinite-paragraph essay)
Well, I managed to procrastinate the remaining notes and outline for my research paper until tomorrow again, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't due the day after that. I also have to write a college scholarship essay by next Monday, and even though it's due after my research paper is, I have to write it first because it's supposedly more important.

Two quizzes:

You Are a Blue M&M

You are an affable and likable person. You are a natural people-pleaser.

You change your mind constantly. Everything ends up sounding good to you.

You like to keep your options open, but your mind isn't muddled. You're a very clear thinker.

You love people, and you're an optimist about everyone you meet. Friendship is important to you.

How am I an optimist?

You Are a Newspaper

You enjoy order and structure. You don't like it when things change much from day to day.

You are primarily concerned with the present. You don't like to speculate about the future.

You are straightforward and honest. You pride yourself on being easy to read.

You are a people person. You wish you could connect with every single person in the world.

I actually find newspapers hard to read. Hard to read without making a mess of papers everywhere, that is. I also REALLY like speculating on the future, if my use of the word "apocalypse" in this entry's subject line is any indication.

In what ways has reposting shaped your life?

Three different 206's have shown up today:

- I was thinking about getting a snack, and I happened to look at the clock and it was 2:05 PM, so I waited until it changed to 2:06 to leave the room to get it. (Granted, it was kinda intentional, but it didn't take that long for it to change to 2:06, so I probably would've gotten my snack at 2:06 anyway.)
- I've recently made a program on my calculator that helps me decide what homework to work on first by dividing what I put as the relative difficulty of each homework assignment (with 1 being the difficulty of a math problem) by how many hours I have to work on it.* At one point, for studying for my economics test next Monday, this turned out to be 2.069800282. Even more interesting is the fact that just before I ran the program that time, I had randomly thought about what it would be like if, once I made a PrtSc Land-styled version of this userpic next PrtSc Land Day, Schrödinger's Enya commented on it.
- I'm reading Frankenstein for English class, and I read page 206 today.

Speaking of homework, I've had a LOT of it lately. :(

And now, back to your regularly scheduled pessimism: my New Year's resolutions!

For a while, I had gotten better at making new LJ userpics as opposed to procrastinating making them. I made one new userpic on Thursday, three on Saturday, one on Sunday, and what I think is a new record - FIFTEEN yesterday!

But then, apparently I flipped back to being a procrastinator, because pretty much all I did the rest of the day yesterday was play Data Worm on Facebook, read random pages on the Homestar Runner Wiki, and reading random stuff on Gadzillion Things. The only other eventful thing I did was watching part of the eclipse last night with [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien and Stephen.

I think I set another new personal record today, as well - I didn't get up until 2:22 PM because I was so tired. :(

Some things I meant to post about the past three days, but didn't:

I finally beat New Super Mario Bros. Wii last Monday, followed by Super Mario Galaxy last Tuesday. Yay!

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien, Stephen, and I went to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. 'Twas interesting! I was kinda surprised by how many things in the movie reminded me of Mario: 1) the fireballs Hades threw looked kinda like the ones Fire Mario throws, 2) Percy's winged shoes reminded me of the Wing Cap from Super Mario 64, and 3) there was one scene in Las Vegas where a Mario Bros. arcade machine was actually in the background. Usually, you don't get that many Mario references out of anything about Greek mythology. ;)

I haven't worked on any of the notecards for my research paper yet, and I have to write at least 30 by Thursday. Answer View Answers

I'm not sure if this truly counts as a random act of kindness, but...

Last Monday (I think), I was going to get a haircut. Instead of a line, there's a sheet of paper where you write your name at the bottom of the list. An elderly man and woman who wanted to get their hair cut at the same time were ahead of me in the list, but they decided to let "this young man" (me) go first. I declined and let them go first.

And yes, I believe in karma.

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
