New Super Mario Bros. U "Deluxe" is out today...
The Super Crown singlehandedly broke the Internet long before its official debut... Now it HAS officially debuted...
This is scary. VERY scary.
Today is the worst possible day to be a Mario fan that doesn't like that stupid meme. I still am a Mario fan, of course, but never before have I been so ashamed that my favorite video game franchise led to THAT.
( In here I rant about that meme again and ramble about the fact that I was considering temporarily removing ALL Mario references from my profile just to spite the people who are into that meme, especially the ones who seem to HATE anyone who dislikes it. And in here I once again mention a certain *other* Mario powerup that *I'm* obsessed with, so if you don't like reading about that then skip this )
I have no idea how much sense this makes... it's just that all I can think about is how annoyed I am that this meme is still around and how annoyed I am that I'm powerless to do anything about it. I felt like I needed to vent about this somehow...

As I've mentioned a while back, I plan on replacing some of my userpics with more legible versions. (even though I've procrastinated that for probably at least a year now...)
Since I knew that doing that will cause me to lose track of what order I added my userpics, I kept a list of my userpics in my profile in order added - but I'm starting to run out of room on my profile now, so I moved it here and reformatted it into a table that hopefully looks better than the old layout.
Note that this excludes the following:
- Old versions of these userpics
- Alternate versions of some of these that I made to protest SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/etc. a few years ago

Right now sources vary on what the outcome of WCIT-12 was, but from what I can tell, the ITR (the resolution they made) is at least mostly about the energy efficiency of the Internet and not its content and probably won't take effect until 2015. So if I'm at least half right about what the ITR is, we either won't need to worry about it censoring the Internet for another two years or we won't need to worry about it at all.
Of course, given how little transparency the conference had and how many governments want stricter regulations on the Internet, this is only because we were very lucky... Nonetheless, this is much better than what seemed like the inevitable outcome, so I might as well go ahead and take my blackout userpics down. (A week from now, just in case.)
EDIT: My paid account time ran out yesterday, so instead I'll wait until I get my account upgraded back. Probably on Christmas.

I just now found out, a little over 18 days and 8 hours before the End Times* begin, that there could be as little as only 1 or 5 hours (dunno whether these are UTC or Dubai time) before the End Times begin. (Minus 37 more minutes due to how long it took to write this entry...) And yet Google knew about it as early as November 19...

Anyway, I brought back ten of my blackout userpics from earlier this year when SOPA and ACTA were impending our doom. Specifically, I brought back the only ten I made that either have no text at all or still could be construed to make sense when used to protest something that threatens the freedom of the Internet in general rather than specifically anything that is currently considered fair use.
I probably won't get to make any more considering how busy I've been lately, but hopefully either everyone else's voices will still be enough to get ITU to change their minds, or after they see everyone else's voices, my ten userpics will end up being the straw that breaks the camel's back.
*Caveat: While it's interesting that this should come up so soon before December 21, I still don't think it can be considered definite proof that there's anything to that date - it's still "maybe something will happen, maybe not" to me. The only difference is the "maybe" is now mostly tied to what happens during the ITU's meeting...

I'm gonna wait a little longer before I revert my protest userpics, so that just in case we find about another bill like SOPA/PIPA/ACTA that's somehow secretly been signed by nearly enough countries for it to pass without anyone knowing for years, I'll have slightly less work to do. Until then, I'll just use the ones I didn't get to replace. :)

EDIT IN 2018: Not only is the image gone now, but I don't remember what any of it said :( But at least I remember that Mulder appearing to have his hand glued to his face throughout the entire thing was the best part in my opinion. :)

Okay, so SOPA and PIPA are gone, but ACTA apparently a) has been around since 2006, b) has already been signed by the U.S., and c) will ruin the Internet in exactly the same way? Sheesh. I'm bringing back my protest userpics (in fact, I brought back the ones that didn't mention SOPA specifically before I posted this entry), and I'm gonna put the protest-userpic idea out there again for anyone else who wants to protest with me. Don't know how to edit your userpic? No problem - let me know what userpic(s) you want to replace and what you want any text changed to, and I'll make it for you!

EDIT ON MAY 12, 2018: THIS IS THE OLD VERSION OF MY GLOSSARY... or at least the oldest version that was a sticky entry rather than on my profile, anyway. THE NEW GLOSSARY IS... nowhere, yet, but I'm going to FINALLY get around to updating this glossary for the first time in years after I'm done fixing all my entries on both LJ and DW.
I made this sticky entry in 2011, but then I didn't update it much after that and left it outdated for nearly SEVEN YEARS - long enough that I decide I might as well preserve the old version of the glossary, but make it no longer sticky in favor of a NEW sticky entry with the updated glossary.
Everything below this point is as the entry originally appeared, except I got rid of the lj-like buttons. The former subject line was simply "Glossary of Matt1993isms".

I finally got around to updating this glossary and moving it to a sticky post so that it wouldn't clutter up my profile and I could have LJ-cuts to jump to certain sections!
Although the whole point of these multiple LJ-cuts is for ease of navigation (i.e. if I reference a Matt1993ism in the definition of a Matt1993ism in a different section, I'd link to the proper section), I haven't had the time to actually go through and add all these links, so stay tuned for that. I also thought about adding artwork for certain entries *cough*/crazymegavideo/*cough*, so stay tuned for that too. :)
As I said in the old glossary, if you spot a Matt1993ism I used that I haven't defined here, or if FoxReplace messes up the "pucker up because it's time for lunch" entry again, etc., please let me know :)

Nowadays, most teenagers find sexual innuendo in almost anything. I feel that one of these days, every letter of the alphabet except Q will be banned, because for every other letter of the alphabet, there is at least one word starting with it that has sexual connotation of some sort, and so every word containing letters other than Q can be made into an abbreviation for some sort of sexual innuendo. And what if someone comes up with sexual innuendo for a word that starts with Q?
I'm not saying we actually should ban twenty-five letters of the alphabet; just annoyed at the way most teens are.
EDOT: I hate this question now. I had to ban several people from commenting in my journal in advance because of it.

Mon, Aug. 17th, 2009 16:09For my 200th LJ entry (my profile will say 201, but that's because I haven't deleted the welcome entry that's automatically made for new users), I decided to do something completely pointless: take the first word from my first post, the second word from my second post, the third word from my third post, and so on, all the way up to this one. (If post #X has Y words, and Y is less than X, then the remainder of X ÷ Y is Z, and I use the Zth word instead, or the last if Z is zero.) And yes, this is a ripoff of 160 Seconds.

How many (if any) songs do you know by heart? What are they?

I don't think I know any songs completely by heart. I memorized most of the backwards lyrics to Out of the Shadows by Sarah McLachlan though. I'd post them if there weren't any other students around me that might potentially get confused by what I'm typing.
EDIT: I ended up getting to go to the computer lab twice today, and no one's at this desk but me this time, so here goes. And no, I did not copy and paste any of this from Ours Will You 1-Up. Honestly.

Tue, Apr. 14th, 2009 19:34I finished the final copy of my research paper. It was easy to do, since there were only a few corrections my teacher suggested. About time.
I also got my braces tightened yesterday. Ouch. Fortunately, my braces pulled a my wisdom teeth and only hurt that day. :)
By the way, there was something I was wondering. You see, on Ours Will You 1-Up, I currently censor not only actual cuss words found in backwards lyrics, but also things like bathroom humor, sexual implications (even without cuss words), and some euphemisms for cuss words. I came up with an idea for a feature to add in the redesign I am planning: clicking the last letter of a song title takes you to a version with only actual cusses censored (a trick I will actually mention on the site, so it's not a secret), but clicking any other letter takes you to a version like I have now. If I did that, would I have to mark Ours Will You 1-Up as containing adult content in the site settings or not? (@pathvain_aelien: I know "shizzle" means "real". I'm not talking about that.)
