Is ANYONE able to see the following mezzacotta strips?

http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-18-05-23
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=18-05-23

(Pro tip: Don't try to load them all at once in four separate tabs - I find that the comics have always been less likely to show up if I try and open more than one at a time.)

And if not, is ANYONE able to see at least one strip that is not linked to from the hall of fame or cast page? (Strips that are read more often usually load faster, and I know at least two in the hall of fame still load for me, so I'm less concerned about the ones in the hall of fame.)

If you find one that works, link to it in the comments so I can test whether or not I can see it.

(Also I feel I should note that if you do see a comic but there's no dialogue in it, that does not mean the comic didn't finish loading. Since mezzacotta is a randomly generated comic, that's a fairly normal occurence. Incidentally, that particular strip is in the hall of fame and as such it does load for me.)

I'm so behind my planned schedule of posting these Miiverse backup entries - if I'd kept to my schedule, I would've posted this entry between June 10 and 16. Maybe this will become Daily Miiverse Backup until I'm caught up!

(I'm surprised this had 6 Yeahs, because it's kind of hard to tell what's going on and I remember one person couldn't even read the third panel. In fact, it's kind of hard to illustrate any sort of "I died because of this" moment in Balloon Trip Breeze in a way that it's easy to tell what's going on, especially if I try and illustrate two in one post...)

Also, in addition to this being my first and only post in this community, this is also my first Miiverse post to lack the "has played this game" icon, because it's the first time I posted in a community where the icon never appears because the community is for a whole series and not one specific game.)

More archived Miiverse posts even though I somehow JUST NOW realized that maybe I should check archive.org to see if anything on Miiverse that I thought was lost forever (i.e. wasn't in the backup Nintendo emailed me) was accessible there, and as it turns out, there's a LOT that's still available that way! Including my own posts! And the comments on at least some of them! And my replies to other people's posts! Why didn't I think to try that until now??

I'm still going to make these Miiverse backup entries the same way I was going to (because who knows if they're ALL on archive.org, and even if they are, it'd be easier to find them in these entries, and I like getting to add commentary about some of them in retrospect), but...wow. I can still access so much content on Miiverse that I thought was gone forever! Maybe I'll go back later on and edit these entries to include not just how MANY comments I had on my Miiverse posts, but exactly what those comments were if I can find them!

(Note that this is nearly a year before they introduced stamps for certain games, and even after the stamp update there never were any stamps for NSMBU. I first made this on my computer in Paint by taking the sprite [from a Mario spritesheet I got from spriters-resource.com that had been saved on my computer ever since the days of PrtSc Land] and recoloring it to grayscale and resizing to 500%, then I replaced all the gray pixels with different patterns of black and white stripes. Then I recreated the whole thing pixel-by-pixel on Miiverse. I don't remember how long it took.

Also this is the first of the only two times I made [non-reply] Miiverse posts with no words in them!

And with sixteen Yeahs, I think it's safe to say that this post had the second-most Yeahs of any post I made, second only to the surprisingly popular "unlikely vine, likely vine" one.)

(At this point I was intending to make a post like this for every multiple of 250 Yeahs up to at least 1,000 - possibly up to 2,000 - then doing it every 500 or 1,000 Yeahs after that. But eventually I forgot about all of this and 250 Yeahs was the only milestone I ended up celebrating.

I don't know how many Yeahs I had by the time Miiverse shut down - I've said before that it was 1,788, but from archive.org it looks like that's actually how many Yeahs *I* gave to *other* people's posts. Now I'm hoping I didn't make the same incorrect assumption when I posted this...

If I counted right, all my posts before this one had a combined total of 307 Yeahs by the time Miiverse shut down. So a lot of those posts probably got more Yeahs even after this one was posted.

Right after this post, I went eight days in a row without posting to Miiverse [except MAYBE replies] - beating out my previous-longest hiatus by one day.)

(It turned out I was remembering wrong when I drew that first panel - in that section, the ? Block [that I'd opened by that point on the first try but not the second try] has a clock IN it; the ? *I always assumed this was specifically the theme for timed missions in Pikmin Adventure, but apparently it's not!

Happy a-few-minutes-early-in-my-time-zone birthday to me! :)

And also happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] 13catswaltz, who has the same birthday as me! :)

And also also to Luigi - because Mario Bros. was released in Japan on July 14, 1983; my negative tenth birthday. ;)

Hey, there's an idea for a totally nerdy survey...

This page has a table (several paragraphs down from the beginning of that section...) that lists the dates every* Super Smash Bros. character debuted (because in SSB4, the order you fight them in All-Star Mode is based on that).

Use that to figure out your answers to these questions:

1) Which SSB character(s), if any, debuted on your birthday in any year?
Luigi

2) Which SSB character(s) debuted closest to the date you were born?
Meta Knight (debuted March 23, 1993 - the date closest to July 14, 1993 in that list).

3) Which SSB character(s) debuted closest to the date you created your LiveJournal/DreamWidth/some-other-journal-site account? (If you have/had multiple journals, you may answer this separately for all of them, some of them, or just one. Whichever you prefer.)
My LJ was created on August 19, 2007 - the character whose debut was closest to that is Rosalina (November 1, 2007).
My DW was created on May 13, 2017, long after the debut of the newest character (Corrin, on June 25, 2015).

:)

*Except Miis, alternate characters (the Koopalings and Alph), and characters from Melee and Brawl who aren't in SSB4. I went ahead and looked up the relevant dates in case you want to include them )
matt1993: (homestar essence of gullibility)
(music tag should be: Snippets of Mario, Kid Icarus, SSB, BtVS, Enya, Dido, Céline Dion, Sarah McLachlan, Moya Brennan, Matchbox 20, Rascal Flatts, & Savage Garden music thrown together randomly in Audacity)

This has been kind of a disappointing April Fools' Day because:

1) Homestar Runner didn't update at all today, even though they did for April Fools' Day 2014, 2015, and 2016, and April Fools and Halloween are almost the only times they ever update nowadays.
2) I don't think many people noticed my April Fools prank at all.

For reference, my April Fools prank was this entry; however, when I first posted it (on March 31 in my time zone, but late enough that it was April 1 already for some of you), it was an exact copy of my first entry. Then I waited a few minutes or so and changed it to a copy of a different past entry in the same way... then changed it to another after a few more minutes, and so on - basically, if I was at my computer, I'd change the entry anywhere from once an hour to once every few minutes. (At first. I gradually updated it less and less often because it seemed like no one was noticing...)

By "exact copy", that means including the subject line, repost button, userpic, tags, mood, music, location... basically, everything except the timestamp, the comments, and friends-only status [though, of course, the only friends-only entries I used were ones that probably would've been fine being public]. And anything that I intended to change each time but accidentally forgot sometimes. Though if I used an entry I'd posted in [livejournal.com profile] _dreams_, [livejournal.com profile] autism, or [livejournal.com profile] asperger, I added a notice saying that it was cross-posted (even though I don't think copying a community entry to my own journal years later for April Fools' Day actually counts as cross-posting).

I chose the entries semi-randomly, sometimes by going to my Calendar for random years and months and picking a random entry I'd feel comfortable posting again, and sometimes by just putting in notable entries that I remember and wanted to include in this prank at some point. Some entries were used more than once.

And just to mess with your heads even more, I thought it might be fun to come up with a hypothetical FUTURE entry and add it into the mix! That's what the 2023 year in review is for. It ended up being my favorite thing about this prank, so I left that one up significantly longer than any other single entry.

Now that April Fools' Day is over, all the entries I ended up using are listed below for posterity. (Don't expect the repost buttons to work correctly, though...)

The entries that you could've sworn that you'd seen already and/or that they said something completely different a few minutes ago, in order of their first use in this prank )

Four things to mention:

1) I moved into my dorm today... and it was REALLY stressful, as usual. :( And I have so much to do tomorrow... I know I said I'd move into the dorm Monday, but then I found out I'd get to wait later before I moved in.
2) Last Wednesday was the 9th anniversary of the original version of PrtSc Land, and I still don't have a USB floppy drive. So remember how I said I was planning on remaking PSL and putting it up on LiveJournal starting on the 10th or 12th or (some other nice number)th anniversary? It's probably not going to be for the 10th anniversary...
3) Lately I've been working on an Excel spreadsheet with the dates, subject lines, userpic keywords, URLs, etc. of every entry I've posted on LiveJournal - AND notes on what I hope to update in each entry eventually, like adding tags, fixing broken images, etc. so that I can keep track of it all more easily. It's far from being done (even just for entries in my own journal), but I'm hoping to get all that maintenance I've been meaning to do on my old entries finished as soon as I can!
4) Today is the 8th anniversary of my LiveJournal! And, for once, I'm doing the LJ comment stats entry on time!
Although on my computer, bar graphs have lately been looking messed up in entries like this one. Does it do that for anyone else - in this or the other LJ Comment Stats entries?

matt1993: (2010 nnwm procrastinator)
By now you no doubt have heard the news about Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president. :(

I intended to write a tribute to him as soon as I had heard the news (a very short tribute, of course, because I'm still not a very good writer), but I ended up putting it off until the 14th, which was my birthday, and every time I want to post about something sad and something fun at the same time, I'm faced with the decision of: Do I try and write one entry about both topics, with some sort of "On a happier note..." transition? Do I post two entries in one day? Do I just pick one and post about it?

ALL of those options have either always worked out badly for me in the past or have never been tried because I KNEW they'd work out badly, hence why I ended up not even posting at all on the 14th. I was considering waiting until the 18th to post about my birthday anyway since that's when my birthday party was, but I still ended up procrastinating so long that by the 18th I was in the same scenario: ready to post about my birthday party, but I still hadn't posted about Iwata, and still didn't know how I should go about writing about either topic.

And then, as you can tell, I ended up procrastinating even further because I feel like there's a huge hole in my journal now there's three consecutive entries that I'm posting way too late. At this point, I think the only way I might be able to make myself not feel this way is if I ask you to pretend that this entry doesn't exist but the three below do and were posted on the dates listed. (note: this probably doesn't matter at all, but I don't know whether or not the repost buttons will work correctly...)

3 entries that I should've posted instead of this one, and 10-17 days earlier )
matt1993: (updated prtsc land me)
I only waited until five days after the 7th anniversary of my LJ this time - and since the actual 7th anniversary was on the day I packed everything for college and the day after that was when I moved back into the dorm, I actually had a legitimate reason for putting it off two of those days! Go me!

(Though right now I am too lazy to tag this entry, link to the 2013 results, or edit that entry to link to this one. And the delay does mean that [livejournal.com profile] pickleboot and I are credited with one more comment each than we would have if I'd done this on the actual anniversary)

At age 20:

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and cofounded Microsoft.

Canadian hockey player Scott Olsen founded Rollerblade, Inc.

English novelist Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, which was immediately successful.

Ragtime composer Scott Joplin became an itinerant pianist and travelled throughout the Midwest.

Despite a lack of experience, James Cagney fast-talked his way into a vaudeville dancing job.

Egyptian hermit Saint Anthony gave away his inheritance and joined a group of ascetics, eventually becoming the father of Christian Monasticism.

D. H. Lawrence began writing his first novel, The White Peacock.

Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice, her second and most famous novel.

English author Elizabeth Barrett Browning published her first volume of poetry.

Polish-born Joseph Conrad, one of the great English language novelists, began learning English, his third language.

Charles Lindbergh learned to fly.

John Stuart Mill pulled himself out of depression and found that the ordinary events of life could again give him some moderate amounts of pleasure. He decided that happiness is attained not by making it the direct goal of life, but by fixing one's mind on some other pursuit.

Leon Battista Alberti wrote a Latin comedy that was hailed as the "discovered" work of a Roman playwright.

The Greek philosopher Plato became a disciple of Socrates.

Sir Isaac Newton began developing a new branch of mathematics that would help him precisely predict the position of the planets at any given time. Today we call this branch differential and integral calculus.

Alexander Graham Bell taught a stray Skye Terrier to talk. By training the dog to growl on cue and then manipulating his mouth and throat, Bell could make him produce the phonemes "ow, ah, ooh, ga, ma, ma," to say "How are you, Grandmama?"

At age 20 Mona could use her second language, English, quite proficiently, so she began learning French, learned how to juggle and play classical pieces on the piano, began to draw with her non-dominant hand, studied animal and human anatomy extensively, applied for art universities, began writing a book on drawing, became a swimmer, and decided to learn to play the violin.

For me, it's a bit hard to tell whether the author likes or hates the show in general, given that there's comments about the show or certain episodes being great AND remarks about Scully being in peril a lot in the early seasons and things like that in the annotations, but this is still a funny comic so far :)

Specifically, I brought back the only ten I made that either have no text at all or still could be construed to make sense when used to protest something that threatens the freedom of the Internet in general rather than specifically anything that is currently considered fair use.

I probably won't get to make any more considering how busy I've been lately, but hopefully either everyone else's voices will still be enough to get ITU to change their minds, or after they see everyone else's voices, my ten userpics will end up being the straw that breaks the camel's back.

*Caveat: While it's interesting that this should come up so soon before December 21, I still don't think it can be considered definite proof that there's anything to that date - it's still "maybe something will happen, maybe not" to me. The only difference is the "maybe" is now mostly tied to what happens during the ITU's meeting...

This probably doesn't make a lot of sense because I had to finish writing this really quickly before they start making decisions on stuff, but oh well.

Post to your journal! There is still time!
matt1993: (updated prtsc land me)
Here they are finally :)

I also manually added information to make it easier to compare to last year's results. The colors aren't coordinated to the amount of ranks you've went up or down, but rather to (1/y-1/x), where y is your rank this year and x is your rank last year. This means that a jump from, say, 5th to 4th is better than a jump from 23rd to 21st.

Ties, at least for the purposes of how many ranks people went up or down and the colors, are handled by I worded this in a weird and kind of cringey way, so I'm retroactively LJ-cutting it in 2018 ) If you weren't on last year's list, you're considered to have been tied for 48th through (how many LJ users there were, are, or will be)th place that year, since there were 47 total commenters.

I think it's interesting how last year there were 47 total commenters and this year there were 74 total commenters :D

Yep - I created my LJ account on August 19, 2007. Sad how the anniversary of LJ should happen to be the day after I accidentally deleted a lot of LJ-related stuff, though... in fact, I was so busy after that happened, I didn't get to finish this post until the day after the anniversary of my LJ. :(

I also wanted to include LJ comment stats (which I said I'd do every three months starting on the fourth anniversary, but ended up deciding to just do once every year), but since this post is already late, I'll post them later.

First line of my first entry on or after the 19th of every month )

(I finally posted it. Here goes nothing...)

(By the way, [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien and [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02, I added a few things after the proofreading)

What's sad is that recently-- Well, okay, not that recently, due to the long amount of time it took to write this entry, have it proofread, and continue to worry about whether or not it makes sense even after I had it proofread. But last October, I was hit with a realization similar to Character 15's, and I'm not even a randomly generated webcomic character.

This post is so long, I'm even using lj-spoiler tags as lj-cuts )

Rant about the inevitable part of this entry that doesn't make sense

National Pi Day
How many digits of pi have you memorized?

Answer View Answers

3.1415926535897932386... I don't remember beyond there.

*checks to make sure these are correct*

GAH! That last decimal place I typed shouldn't be a 6! It should be a 4, then a 6!

So, despite my grapheme→color synesthesia, I have yet to memorize pi to more than 18 decimal places (19 digits altogether). Sad. :(

I did know that the 8 before it was the beginning of a string of six nonzero even digits and that no two adjacent digits in that string are identical, though, so I guess I can say I have log(1018 × (10/3)5) (because there were 3 possibilities for each of the digits after the 8) = log(411,522,633,744,855,967,078.18930041152...) = 20.614393726401687813524860483724 decimal places memorized! (or 21.614393726401687813524860483724 digits altogether) Of course, that isn't much better...

EDIT: Thanks to the Nintendo 64, I think I finally figured out a way to remember the last two of those even digits I was talking about! :D

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
