Whatever Matt Feels Like Posting

I was hoping to do something unexpected on here for April Fools' Day this year, but there's more than enough anxious, cringeworthy entries in my journal lately as it is. No need for me to MAKE UP something to be disproportionately excited and/or anxious about like I did for the majority of my past April Fools jokes.

These days, writing a regular entry by 2009-2019 standards - like, an entry about good/ordinary things in my life or random things I found online - might just be the most unexpected thing I could possibly do on LJ or DW.

So, THAT'S my April Fools prank this year! A REGULAR entry! :) (note: I'm posting it early this year in case this ends up the last opportunity I have to post an entry prior to April 2)

This week my sister pathvain_aelien came over to visit, so I'm glad to see her again for the first time since June! Which itself was the last time since April! I've been meaning to post about both of those visits. And during the April visit in particular, I was hoping to post about how we watched some movies I've been wanting to see like Toy Story 4 and the live-action Christopher Robin movie. :)

My friend and I went to Six Flags last October, and to Las Vegas earlier this month! Both of those were fun. (or at least the closest approximation of fun that I could experience in those relative timeframes) :)

Last May, Mom bought me three new amiibo (Pichu, Dark Samus, and Simon) so that I would have "something to do besides worry" as she put it. And for my birthday I got Donkey Kong (Mario series version), Daisy (Smash Bros. version), Richter, and Incineroar, then for Christmas I got King K. Rool, Snake, Wolf, Chrom, and Hero. :D (The full list of amiibo I own is here)

Sadly there are no examples with either video game music or Enya - the two I most wanted to combine. But there's several examples with Céline Dion, and a Moya Brennan one and a Sarah McLachlan one, so I'm happy about that :) I think this is my favorite of the ones I've heard.

(well, the first 279 so far, anyway) The results are sometimes hilarious, sometimes disturbing, sometimes a bit of both!

2019 calendar year in review... wow. It's been ten years since the first time I ever did this meme or knew that year in review memes were even a thing. I am old!

This was an awful week for me... I'd gotten behind on the project at work due to several circumstances outside my control (time off for bereavement; the systems I needed to do my work on all being used at once; my inability to stay focused for very long because of my autism), and had to work extra hours nearly every day this week to get caught up because I thought the deadline was this week.

Apparently, the most elaborate April Fools prank of all this year was how I totally tricked myself into thinking I would have a great day because it was April Fools' Day, but, APRIL FOOLS, that happened to also be the day I stumbled on SO MUCH STUFF on the Internet that upset me and made me feel like I'd be hated. :(

I've been really anxious lately because I've been thinking more than usual about all the stupid things I've said and done in the past. To the point that I often have to stop whatever I'm doing just to repress my memories of them.

Apparently the image that's automatically generated by this feature doesn't stay around forever - it gets replaced every year with the next year's version, so my "2017 in LJ" entry is now showing the 2018 stats. Lame... So if you're reading this a year or more later, my actual 2018 stats were 126 entries posted and 948 comments and likes received.

I don't like it when things get deleted or replaced after only one year or less. If homestarrunner.com took that approach, only one Strong Bad Email would still be on the site by now and it's one that isn't technically counted as a sbemail. If Super Smash Bros. took that approach, NONE of the characters that are in it would be there because all of them - even the most-recently-created ones like Inkling, Corrin, and Incineroar - debuted at least two years before Super Smash Bros. Ultimate came out. </rant>

In other news, I've fixed over 1,000 entries! Yay! :D

pathvain_aelien stayed at my apartment for a while; in that time we watched the How To Train Your Dragon TV show! (Specifically, the third of the three shows there were. P_A, what was the third show called again? Dragons: Race to the Edge.) We made it to season 4. :) Have any of you watched it?

It's no secret that I've fallen really far behind on my plan to backup some of my Miiverse posts on LJ/DW once a week. So I have an idea of how to get on a regular schedule that I'll have more motivation to stick to: start posting them once every two weeks instead of one, and act as if this had been my schedule all along starting from my first Miiverse backup entry - meaning the second Miiverse backup entry is now retroactively considered to be posted a week early (being one week after the first rather than two), the third one is retroactively considered to be two weeks early (being two weeks after the first instead of four), and so on.

As I've posted 23 Miiverse backup entries so far, that means the next one would get posted 23×2=46 weeks after the first, which would be the week of... December 12? So this means I'm now "still" caught up! :)

Do me a favor. The next time I consider doing some sort of regular feature on LJ or DW that requires me to upload new images or post entries with images in them once a week, please remind me about this and try to convince me to bring it down to once every two weeks...

Finally, now that the last Super Smash Bros. Direct is out, I'll give you another taste of just how weird it is in the mind of Matt1993:

- When I first saw a screenshot of Kirby's Peach copy ability in Super Smash Bros. Melee (when I was 9), I somehow didn't realize that was Peach's crown - my mind jumped to the conclusion that King Bob-omb from Super Mario 64 was playable and either that was his pink alternate costume or Kirby's King Bob-omb copy ability.
- I made up an entire moveset for Mary O. & Yamamura from Super Mario Maker and posted it earlier this year. (And I've brought up the idea even earlier than that - see the music tag on that April Fools entry.)
- And somehow, despite all of that, I still at no point expected a Piranha Plant to be a playable character.

Also, why is it that so many Super Smash Bros. fans hate each other over who's playable or different opinions about who they want to playable?

( This got rant-ier than the rest of the entry. Long story short: I like Piranha Plant and other unexpected SSB characters more than most of the Internet seems to )

If you're not into Super Smash Bros. or Super Mario Maker... and maybe even if you ARE into those games but aren't as obsessed with Mary O. as I am... then this entry will probably be of no interest to you and you should probably skip it unless you REALLY want to know what goes on inside my head. :P


Being the Nintendo nerd I am, ever since the first Super Smash Bros. I sometimes tried to imagine what it would be like if various characters (video game or otherwise) that weren't playable in any SSB games yet were.

But I don't think I've ever come up with a complete moveset for one until now. Usually all I think of is:
- "What would Kirby look like if he copied this character?"
- "What would this character's alternate costumes be?"
- (for characters who aren't from a series that's already in the game) "What would this character's series symbol be?"
- MAYBE a game mechanic that would be unique to that one character
- MAYBE taunts and MAYBE special moves and a Final Smash.

And usually I don't write about or draw any of these ideas either - just think about it.


But lately, due to my constantly being obsessed with Mary O. (who unfortunately is still obscure enough that I feel like I have to link to that article again), I've been thinking more and more about what it'd be like if she and Yamamura were playable in Super Smash Bros. as a 2-in-1 character similar to Duck Hunt.

In fact I first thought of this idea at some point before April Fools' Day 2017 (see the music tag for that entry), but lately I've been thinking more and more about how this could work, enough that I think I have ideas for their entire hypothetical moveset by now.

And I keep thinking about said moveset so much that writing an entry about it is probably the only way I'm ever going to stop being so distracted thinking about it, even though I doubt it'd be interesting to anyone here (none of you are as obsessed with Mary O. as I am, and a lot of you probably aren't even into Super Smash Bros. enough for this to be of interest to you). So I'll LJ-cut it so I won't bore you. :)

It feels so weird that I've put all this thought into making an entire moveset and such for Mary O. & Yamamura for literally no reason since I doubt I'd be making a Super Smash Bros. fangame or hack anytime soon... and it feels especially weird to actually be typing out this ridiculous idea after spending so much time only thinking about it...

Well, now you know what goes on inside my head! :P

Finally done reverting my April Fools' "Photobucket placeholder" userpics back to the normal ones. (Hopefully. I hope I didn't forget or misspell a keyword somewhere down the line.)

If only fixing all my entries or reading all the stuff I was supposed to have read years ago would be that easy...

Wait... how can this movie even exist?? I thought Nintendo and Illumination were already working on an animated Mario movie – is Nintendo working on the animated movie AND Mary O. & Yamamura at the same time for some reason? And as much as I like the Super Mario Maker Crash Course comics, the fact remains that it's just an eight-episode-long tutorial for making good Super Mario Maker levels - how can ANYONE possibly adapt it into a full-length movie?? And how did they manage to convince Enya, of all people, to be in it as such an obscure character? Did they, like, trick her into it?

...Okay, why am I looking a gift unicorn in the esophagus? MARY O., the most underrated fictional character I know of, is going to be in a MOVIE. Played by ENYA. This is the best thing that has happened to me this decade. :D


And yes, I KNOW, I KNOW, people are upset that they didn't get a Japanese actress for Mary O., and I respect their opinions. But come on... Enya music notwithstanding, I never thought my ♯1 celebrity crush OR my ♯1 fictional character crush would be in a movie whatsoever!! Now the former is going to be PLAYING the latter??

You'll probably all hate me for this (and I know I say that a lot, but I'm even more sure of it this time...), but sorry, I personally am NOT going to miss out on this movie!!

To me, this is going to be the best movie EVER!

...well, unless there turns out to be a catch to it, like maybe a certain YouTuber who makes up theories about video games that a lot of his fans take too seriously and blindly accept as fact is also in this movie or something. But that would never happen!
