Whatever Matt Feels Like Posting

Dear everyone who STILL, in 2021-2022, either genuinely gets mad at fictional characters for not social distancing or not wearing masks, or still thinks it's funny to make jokes implying that you are:

Please stop ruining my enjoyment of everything. Please stop ruining videos that I would otherwise enjoy such as this one by posting your unfunny jokes in the comments. I do NOT appreciate being reminded that everyone will hate me and wish me dead if I so much as get too close to someone by accident. I do not appreciate being reminded that the pandemic is going to last forever and all the restrictions associated with it and all the hatred that people receive for messing up on them will last forever.

So I think I've mentioned before that I don't find jokes about the coronavirus, social distancing, face masks, etc. very funny - ESPECIALLY when people start taking it to the extreme and judging people in the PAST, or in FICTIONAL WORLDS where the coronavirus doesn't exist, etc. for whether or not they're social distancing or wearing masks. Because it's like, if they're going to be so judgemental about it in scenarios where it's NOT necessary, then I feel like they probably absolutely HATE people in real life just for coming within 5 feet and 11 inches of them or FORGETTING a mask or taking their mask off for like FIVE SECONDS or something.

I really need to vent about a couple of particularly upsetting examples of such jokes I just came across (because of YouTube recommendations, so no, I don't go LOOKING for these), so here they are:

I've never even seen any of these videos, but I know I'm not going to like them, and I know I DEFINITELY do not like most of the comments on at least the first two. SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY THINK FICTIONAL CHARACTERS HAVE TO FOLLOW THE SAME GUIDELINES AS REAL PEOPLE. Which means those commenters must be REALLY mean to people who don't follow the rules, EVEN WHEN IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO. As someone who understandings why the guidelines in real life are important, I can say that THAT is why so many people aren't taking it seriously, and why a lot of the time I can't even say I blame people for not taking it seriously.

This is way more annoying than anything else I've ever declared to be annoying.

I might regret saying this, but I think I'm going to feel better if I vent, so I'll just say it. "Jokingly" getting mad at people over new restrictions that NO ONE likes or is used to just makes all the new restrictions even worse than they have to be, and therefore makes more people think they are tyranny. If you actually think any of the above videos or their comments are funny, there is probably something wrong with you.

Dear every company that has been forced to make ANY sort of change AT ALL because of the coronavirus:

Once the coronavirus pandemic ends*, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO RETURN EXACTLY TO THE WAY YOU WERE BEFORE. When it's no longer necessary to hold events without audiences or host shows from your own home or do anything that you weren't having to do before the pandemic, PLEASE GO BACK TO THE WAY YOU WERE. MY SANITY DEPENDS ON IT. IF I'M GOING TO BE CONSTANTLY REMINDED THAT THE WORLD ENDED IN MARCH 2020, IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.


*Because I know some of you are probably going to misinterpret this as saying I want everything un-cancelled now and hate** me for it: I'M TALKING ABOUT AFTER THE PANDEMIC IS OVER.


**I know assuming that people will HATE me for things is a bad habit I need to get out of, but I'm too stressed out to be concerned about THAT bad habit at the moment.

New Super Mario Bros. U "Deluxe" is out today...

The Super Crown singlehandedly broke the Internet long before its official debut... Now it HAS officially debuted...

This is scary. VERY scary.



Today is the worst possible day to be a Mario fan that doesn't like that stupid meme. I still am a Mario fan, of course, but never before have I been so ashamed that my favorite video game franchise led to THAT.


( In here I rant about that meme again and ramble about the fact that I was considering temporarily removing ALL Mario references from my profile just to spite the people who are into that meme, especially the ones who seem to HATE anyone who dislikes it. And in here I once again mention a certain *other* Mario powerup that *I'm* obsessed with, so if you don't like reading about that then skip this )



I have no idea how much sense this makes... it's just that all I can think about is how annoyed I am that this meme is still around and how annoyed I am that I'm powerless to do anything about it. I felt like I needed to vent about this somehow...

pathvain_aelien stayed at my apartment for a while; in that time we watched the How To Train Your Dragon TV show! (Specifically, the third of the three shows there were. P_A, what was the third show called again? Dragons: Race to the Edge.) We made it to season 4. :) Have any of you watched it?

It's no secret that I've fallen really far behind on my plan to backup some of my Miiverse posts on LJ/DW once a week. So I have an idea of how to get on a regular schedule that I'll have more motivation to stick to: start posting them once every two weeks instead of one, and act as if this had been my schedule all along starting from my first Miiverse backup entry - meaning the second Miiverse backup entry is now retroactively considered to be posted a week early (being one week after the first rather than two), the third one is retroactively considered to be two weeks early (being two weeks after the first instead of four), and so on.

As I've posted 23 Miiverse backup entries so far, that means the next one would get posted 23×2=46 weeks after the first, which would be the week of... December 12? So this means I'm now "still" caught up! :)

Do me a favor. The next time I consider doing some sort of regular feature on LJ or DW that requires me to upload new images or post entries with images in them once a week, please remind me about this and try to convince me to bring it down to once every two weeks...

Finally, now that the last Super Smash Bros. Direct is out, I'll give you another taste of just how weird it is in the mind of Matt1993:

- When I first saw a screenshot of Kirby's Peach copy ability in Super Smash Bros. Melee (when I was 9), I somehow didn't realize that was Peach's crown - my mind jumped to the conclusion that King Bob-omb from Super Mario 64 was playable and either that was his pink alternate costume or Kirby's King Bob-omb copy ability.
- I made up an entire moveset for Mary O. & Yamamura from Super Mario Maker and posted it earlier this year. (And I've brought up the idea even earlier than that - see the music tag on that April Fools entry.)
- And somehow, despite all of that, I still at no point expected a Piranha Plant to be a playable character.

Also, why is it that so many Super Smash Bros. fans hate each other over who's playable or different opinions about who they want to playable?

( This got rant-ier than the rest of the entry. Long story short: I like Piranha Plant and other unexpected SSB characters more than most of the Internet seems to )


*Why couldn't this song have existed when MY world came to an end? It would have been so appropriate for that!

About time I posted another one of these. If I'd stuck to my intended schedule of posting my Miiverse backup entries once a week, this would've been posted between June 24 and 30, 2018.

I'll get caught up someday...

At least I can prove I'm still capable of posting entries that don't mention the Quidd drama!... wait a minute... DANG IT! :P

For my birthday I got (along with other games and things) money to get NSLU from the eShop, so I'm gonna do that now… If I'm not back in an hour, send a not-being-distracted-by-Miiverse after me XD

(I wonder what I was doing if it took me three whole days after my birthday to post this. Probably playing Kid Icarus: Uprising - I got that for the same birthday, but didn't get to post about it on Miiverse for a while because there were no 3DS game communities back then except for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Also, I think this is the only time I posted about a game that was out by then, but that I didn't have yet. I may be wrong though.)

Got NSLU and liking it so far! I wish there were an official in-story explanation of why Mario's not there, though, if only so there wouldn't be fan speculation... But I'm liking the game :)

(That's how you know that this post predates Game Theory's "Mario is Mental" videos - I found some other Mario-related fan speculation annoying enough that I had to post a mini-rant about it.

Also, like the next few, this ended up in the NSMBU community instead of NSLU because for whatever reason, New Super Luigi U didn't give me nearly as many opportunities to post from in-game, which was the only way to post in the NSLU community at all.)

(Again, this is my first AND last post in the NSLU community. I think we continued playing New Super Luigi U for a while after this, but not long enough for us to get around to 100% completing it unlike with NSMBU. I should finish that someday. This was also my last Miiverse post of 2013 - it would be about 5 or 6 months [139 days, to be exact] until I finally started posting again, setting another new record for my longest hiatus.)

I AM GOING TO UNFRIEND ANYONE WHO POSTS AN ENTRY ABOUT THE "LAUREL" AND "YANNY" DEBATE.

...okay, I won't really unfriend anyone because of it, but seriously - ( I'm sick enough of hearing about it that I had to post a rant about how I'm annoyed by it )

LiveJournal, please fix our images. Or at least acknowledge the fact that they're broken. :(

The least likely user to make a post like this

I am sick and tired of people blaming 2016 for all the bad things that have happened this year.

Yes, I get that there were a lot of celebrity deaths this year, people got upset with each other over the election even more so than usual, etc. Those were definitely bad things that happened this year. But the Internet has taken this WAY too far - I'm getting tired of people blaming the year for it. (Dear 42 and It's Over 9000: I apologize. You are not the most annoyingly overused number-related memes in existence.) the way some people talk, it's like they think nothing good happened in 2016 (not true!) or that nothing bad happened in 2015 or any other recent year (also not true!). They make me feel like I'm not allowed to enjoy anything that was released in 2016. :(

Sorry for the rant - I just needed to get this off my chest before the end of the year. (Not that it'll make any difference - there's still people who complain about Super Mario Maker being released on September 11 last year...)


To anyone who happens to discover my journal while this is still on the first page: Rest assured, rants like this (or rants of any kind) are not very common in my journal. :)
