Whatever Matt Feels Like Posting

The tenth anniversary of my LiveJournal is on August 19!!!


To celebrate, August 2017 is Matt1993 Nostalgia Month! (Okay, so that would also be an accurate description of basically any month from October 2015 to July 2017... but for August 2017, it's an even MORE accurate description!)

When I joined LJ nearly ten years ago, I never thought I'd be still on it for this long - especially given how I kept going on hiatuses from it until February 2009. I also never thought so many things would have changed since then, or that I'd be posting about so many new things since then.

I keep wondering what basically everything I've posted to LJ in 2009-2017 would look like to my 14-year-old or 15-year-old self (i.e. from the era when I wasn't that active on LJ and didn't think I ever would be).


Well, now that question will be sort of answered, because:

1. I'm changing my journal style back to Blue Gray (which is what I think I was using at first and had left as for... I'm not even sure how long; probably until early 2009 but MAYBE earlier) for a month, then will change it to Pale Yellows again at the end of the month. Though I'm leaving the journal title and subtitle as is because I don't remember what those were back in 2007 - and I decided that if I'm keeping those as is, I'll also leave in other anachronistic references such as the comment text being "# Doom 2 bad guys will come out of my ears"/"Rob Morrow to you!" :)

2. As those of you who've known me since 2009 know, five of my oldest userpics used to look different until I updated them late that year (and I don't think I had any userpics at all before 2009). Well, I'm temporarily changing those five userpics back to what they looked like in 2009!

3. And why stop there? If my newer userpics had also existed prior to November 2009 or so, some of them likely would've looked different back then, too - so I've taken what I call the "Super Mario Maker approach" because I'm a dork and retroactively created "older" versions of eleven more userpics, and am temporarily changing them "back" to these versions for the month!

What would my journal and some of my comments have looked like if...
- that brief era when I played D&D had been at least a few months earlier
- I'd started watching The X-Files before 2010
- I'd had my first /crazymegavideo/ dream before 2010
- the Forbidden Comment Threads had happened at least a couple of years earlier, resulting in 2009 being during the four years or so of depression and angst they caused me
- and so on
...and therefore some of my userpics about these had been made when I was 15 instead of 16-22?

Let's find out!!

It was fun using my 2008-2009 drawing/spriting styles once again in 2016-2017! Even if the old-style versions of the 7:97 and /crazymegavideo/ userpics don't sync up as well with the regular versions as I thought they would. :)

4. And, as if making ancient in-jokes look even more ancient wasn't anachronistic enough already, I'm even applying the same temporary changes to my DreamWidth account! This includes the same userpic changes, and... okay, not the SAME layout changes, because LJ and DW have different default layouts. Still, I figure if DreamWidth had existed in 2007 and I'd had an account on it back then, I probably would've used its default layout for nearly two years like I did on LJ, so I'm temporarily using that layout (Neutral Good) for a month. :)


(Before I actually make any of these changes, though, I'm going to make sure both the LJ and DW versions of this entry look okay - so my journals may or may not still be yellow when you see this.)

Why do I suddenly feel like there was something I was supposed to do today?


I dunno, for some reason I'm wanting to think that at some point I promised to start posting a remake of a webcomic or something that I started 10 years ago to this day, started putting online about 8½ years ago, and quit 8 years ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure that earlier this year, I was supposed to start making enough strips in advance so that when today came, I'd be able to start posting the remake - and even have a decent update schedule, at least for a while.


Nah. Probably just my imagination. (Or lack thereof...)

In case I don't post some other new entry between now and when this scheduled entry goes live, sorry I went a week or so without checking my friends page (finally checking it once more on the 24th, and hopefully more times after that) - I had to get two programs for Game Graphics class almost finished.

But anyway, it's finally time for another quiz rerun! (Well, actually the first quiz rerun, since the one before that was a survey.)

Finally summon up the courage to repost to your journal

Well, looks like my PSL-styled userpics are gonna be late this year, as it's already August 11 (or August 12 in some timezones) and I'm only up to the K's (I'm going alphabetically by the original userpics' filenames on my computer). So, no replacing my regular userpics this year either. I've gotta start making the PSL-styled userpics right after I make the regular ones...

By the way, I bet some of you have been wondering, "Are you also going to make alternate versions of your userpics for real holidays instead of just for the anniversary of the Internet's worst webcomic?" Yes, I actually have been considering recreating my userpics in alternate styles for the following holidays (but not necessarily the very next time each holiday occurs), in order from most to least likely:

- Christmas (By baking Christmas cookies based on my userpics. Might be too time-consuming, though.)
- Halloween (Carving my userpics onto jack-o'-lanterns. All those pumpkins might be too expensive, though, and like the Christmas cookies, probably will be too time-consuming.)
- Easter (Drawing my userpics on Easter eggs. Might be a little time-consuming, but not as much so as the Christmas cookies or jack-o'-lanterns; however, I'm slightly less interested in making this style)
- St. Patrick's Day (Making all my userpics green-tinted. Since that's not as unique to each userpic [for lack of a better phrasing] as the other styles, I probably won't do this one, but then again, I might)

Aw, gnat! LJ is down for maintenance, so I'm gonna type stuff to post in Notepad and post it once LJ is back.

Anyways, I accidentally fell asleep after school today. Again. This time, though, once I woke up, I went back to sleep on purpose.

I then played Dungeons & Dragons with pathvain_aelien and Stephen. This is the first time I've used my tiger Garfield in battle and the first time I leveled up in the game. There was also this funny part where Stephen asked P_A what her charisma modifier was, and she thought he said "Christmas modifier." I've gotta make that into a new profile name now. By the way, my new character is a druid named Juke; we abandoned the campaign that has Cranther. Poor Cranther.

Also, what's weirding me out is how much updates/maintenance is happening on the same day. First, my computer apparently messed up during updates and went into Startup Repair (which I cancelled and started normally, allowing my computer to finish the updates), then ICQ automatically updated, and now LiveJournal maintenance. Is today National Maintenance Day or something?

I'm finally completely done with the semester at school AND my first HAS assignment! Yay! Now I don't have to worry about anything essayy (read "essay-y") for the next 27 hours and 12 minutes. (Because the essays at school kept me from working on HAS for a long time.)

Now I'm gonna make fun of a quiz that I didn't even take (because I CAN'T take it).

Nowadays, most teenagers find sexual innuendo in almost anything. I feel that one of these days, every letter of the alphabet except Q will be banned, because for every other letter of the alphabet, there is at least one word starting with it that has sexual connotation of some sort, and so every word containing letters other than Q can be made into an abbreviation for some sort of sexual innuendo. And what if someone comes up with sexual innuendo for a word that starts with Q?

I'm not saying we actually should ban twenty-five letters of the alphabet; just annoyed at the way most teens are.

EDOT: I hate this question now. I had to ban several people from commenting in my journal in advance because of it.

Having WAY too many creative-type assignments in school. BEING CREATIVE IS NOT JUST SOMETHING I CAN TURN ON OR OFF! FOR ME CREATIVITY JUST HAPPENS RANDOMLY!

A rundown of all creative-type assignments so far:

Last Wednesday: write a journal entry of either one of Columbus's men or an "Indian" (Native American for those of you who prefer Columbus's mistake to be as clear as possible), which was due the next day, and write an Indian/Native American myth, which was due Friday (rough draft) and Monday (final copy). Since I've already done those, I'll tell y'all about them if you want, but I don't have the time now.

Last Friday: For yearbook (the elective I chose, and never will again), I have to come up with three things that are unique about this school year, and three possible yearbook themes that should have to do with said unique things if possible. How the sail am I supposed to know that stuff?

Today: a project in which we have to choose one of those first few New World settlements and make a brochure for it was assigned, and is due "Friday" (actually Wednesday due to that stupid get-homework-done-as-soon-as-possible-even-if-the-apocalypse-is-coming policy I'm forced to live by).



So! On a related-only-because-of-apocalypse-paranoia note, I decided to just skip the last 22 songs I wanted to have on OWY1U for the time being and just focus on getting the songs that were already online back online.
