Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2021. Post the first line of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review".

January 2021

I'm tired of how people are "joking" about 2021 being 2020 part 2 or something like that.

(I still am, by the way.)

February 2021

It's becoming harder and harder to motivate myself to do ANYTHING anymore.

(Even though I'd still qualify this as overall a good year, my motivation didn't get any better over the next ten months.)

March 2021

I was REALLY out of line in my last entry... I've been trying my best to keep myself from saying things I don't really mean when I'm anxious, but clearly I'm not any good at that. I've already been unfriended for that entry. And for a few other entries.

April 2021

About three years ago, I decided to try and fix EVERYTHING that I'd been meaning to fix in my old entries for quite some time now - broken images, broken links, adding more useful tags and removing useless ones, and so on, not to mention that things didn't get copied over correctly from LJ to DW. It took some time, but I got all the way to early 2018 before starting to put it off for a while.

May 2021

Yeah, I haven't posted in a while. But at least that's better than posting really stupid entries like I usually do, right?

June 2021

So... Remember all those times when I panicked because LJ or DW or some other site I like (or sometimes not even one I like!) went down for a few minutes or hours and I thought it might turn out to be a permanent outage? Remember when sometimes I even thought it might be an indication that the entire Internet might go down?

July 2021

I've made a couple of posts about rejection sensitive dysphoria already but since I came across another video about it, and it sounded A LOT like me, I figured I should post it as well. Just to give you all a bit more perspective on why I said certain things, thought people were mad at me when they might not be, and turned into such a terrible person during the pandemic no matter how much I tried to be a good person.

August 2021

Tomorrow will mark the 14th anniversary of my LiveJournal.

September 2021

I came across a couple of videos where this guy tries to play multiple Mario Party games at the same time, with the same inputs going to all the games at once. It gets crazy sometimes!

October 2021

It's been a while since I last posted. And it'll probably be a while before my next post too.

November 2021

Welp, it's November 2021.

December 2021

Yesterday was another one of those days when I could barely stay focused at work because I kept thinking about ideas for possible future LJ posts.

(This is the first time in a while when the calendar year in review entry does NOT include its own first line as the December line, because it's the first year in a while in which I posted something in December before this year in review. :) )

I came across a couple of videos where this guy tries to play multiple Mario Party games at the same time, with the same inputs going to all the games at once. It gets crazy sometimes! Kind of reminds me of that series I found and shared here about a decade* ago where a different guy tries to play Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 at the same time in a similar way.

*I AM OLD.

So... I've known about Chip's Challenge since I first played it in late 2004 or early 2005. And I've had Mario Party 3 since... I don't even remember when, but probably sometime between 2004 and 2007.

And yet it somehow took me twelve years or so to realize that "Chip Shot Challenge" (the name of one of the minigames in Mario Party 3) is likely a reference to Chip's Challenge?! I literally just realized it yesterday! Wow.

Has that ever happened to you where some game/movie/book/show/song/etc. you like makes a reference to another game/movie/whatever you like and you don't realize it until years after you first liked both? :)

(EDIT IN JUNE 2019: ...Okay, now the consensus of Super Mario Wiki is (and has been since February 2018) that the name of that minigame is NOT a Chip's Challenge reference - it's most likely just a coincidence that they both happen to have the words "chip" and "challenge" in the name. But still, I'm surprised it took me twelve years to even mistakenly think it might be a reference! And reference or not, this entry still led to some interesting comments on LJ. :) )

In completely unrelated news, now I've fixed 218 out of 1,193 entries. At the rate I'm going, I won't have them all fixed until about November 28. And by then something else will have probably gone wrong and I'll have to spend three months fixing something else on LJ and/or DW. :(

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/05/05/cannes-film-festival-100-years-movie

Wow... I don't think anyone expected anything like this.

I really hope that I'm still alive when it comes out. On November 18, 2115, I'd be 122 years old, so I might still be alive. (At least they didn't take the mezzacotta approach [in the opposite direction] by releasing it in 9999999999999 AD!)

I just hope I don't end up having to decide between seeing 100 Years or getting Super Smash Bros. 23, Mario Kart 40, Mario Party 65, or Kid Icarus 7 :P

Have this posted to your journal in 100 years...give or take 100

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm finally gonna post what I gave and received for Christmas even though it's still an incomplete list. I wasn't trying to make posting this around the new year and posting my New Year's memes around Christmas a tradition by doing it this way two years in a row, but I guess it happened anyway.

← 2012 2014 →

What I got:

- Super Mario 3D World (as I've mentioned) from Mom (and she also preordered Mario Kart 8)
- Wreck-It Ralph game for 3DS
- Mario Party: Island Tour (although I can't play it all the way yet because my R button broke again :( )
- Portal and Portal 2 from [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 (The first two Xbox games I've ever owned. I'd realized this year that I've thought "This Xbox game looks cool, but I don't think it'd be worth getting an Xbox just for this one game" enough times that it might be worth asking for an Xbox and some of those games for Christmas. Except I eventually decided I'd rather have PC versions of them, so that's what I got. :) )
- DVD of Monsters University
- The Hyperbole and a Half book and Garfield: From the Trash Bin from [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien
- "I ♥ Enya" T-shirt (contrary to what this userpic implies, I didn't have such a shirt until now) from Jake
- Garfield "I hate Mondays" 2014 calendar from Mom
- GameStop gift card from my roommate
- $50 from my grandparents

What I gave:

- I got Mom an Air Supply CD, a new pair of headphones, and a butterfly needlepoint
- I got Dad a subscription to a magazine I thought he'd be interested in
- I got my grandparents a turtle solar light for their garden, since they like turtles
- I got [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien a book or two, some supplies for knitting, and I think something else
- I got Jake some supplies for painting
- I got Nace filters for his humidifier
- I got my roommate a DVD of the Mortal Instruments movie

And there was more (because I know I got ellaina02 something), but I don't remember it all now and I probably have some of these mixed up with things that I considered giving until I decided on something else to give.

Yes, I'm a bad person for not remembering what I got everyone. You don't need to remind me :(

Speaking of me being a bad person... what entry was the last straw now? Because a couple of recent entries in my journal don't have any comments at all, so I feel the need to ask again...

Late again, but here's what I got for my birthday:

- Mario Party 9 from Mom, I think
- Kid Icarus Uprising and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, also from Mom, but I can't play them yet because the L button on my 3DS stopped working just before my birthday :( But [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 fixed it, and she also fixed the R button, so I'll get my 3DS back this weekend!
- DVD of Wreck-It Ralph from [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02 and Nace
- Mario T-shirt from [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien
- mezzacotta T-shirt (the July 29, 3226 BC strip, specifically) from Jake
- And money from Mom and [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien to get these 3DS/Wii U eShop games:
> the new games in StreetPass Mii Plaza
> New Super Luigi U
> the Coin Rush packs (DLC) for New Super Mario Bros. 2
> 3D Classics: Kid Icarus
> Pushmo

← Age 19 Age 21-22 →

At age 20:

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and cofounded Microsoft.

Canadian hockey player Scott Olsen founded Rollerblade, Inc.

English novelist Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, which was immediately successful.

Ragtime composer Scott Joplin became an itinerant pianist and travelled throughout the Midwest.

Despite a lack of experience, James Cagney fast-talked his way into a vaudeville dancing job.

Egyptian hermit Saint Anthony gave away his inheritance and joined a group of ascetics, eventually becoming the father of Christian Monasticism.

D. H. Lawrence began writing his first novel, The White Peacock.

Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice, her second and most famous novel.

English author Elizabeth Barrett Browning published her first volume of poetry.

Polish-born Joseph Conrad, one of the great English language novelists, began learning English, his third language.

Charles Lindbergh learned to fly.

John Stuart Mill pulled himself out of depression and found that the ordinary events of life could again give him some moderate amounts of pleasure. He decided that happiness is attained not by making it the direct goal of life, but by fixing one's mind on some other pursuit.

Leon Battista Alberti wrote a Latin comedy that was hailed as the "discovered" work of a Roman playwright.

The Greek philosopher Plato became a disciple of Socrates.

Sir Isaac Newton began developing a new branch of mathematics that would help him precisely predict the position of the planets at any given time. Today we call this branch differential and integral calculus.

Alexander Graham Bell taught a stray Skye Terrier to talk. By training the dog to growl on cue and then manipulating his mouth and throat, Bell could make him produce the phonemes "ow, ah, ooh, ga, ma, ma," to say "How are you, Grandmama?"

At age 20 Mona could use her second language, English, quite proficiently, so she began learning French, learned how to juggle and play classical pieces on the piano, began to draw with her non-dominant hand, studied animal and human anatomy extensively, applied for art universities, began writing a book on drawing, became a swimmer, and decided to learn to play the violin.

matt1993: (2010 nnwm procrastinator)
Today I finally came up with a new system to help me not only avoid procrastinating my creative vortexes (and similar things), but avoid always working on things that I won't need to finish for a while just so I won't have to work on the ones that are due sooner!

Here's how it works: I already have a list of things to do sorted roughly from what I have the least time to do to what I have the most time to do, and things that I have practically unlimited time to do are also sorted by my willingness to wait until college to finish them. I also now have a scoring system that retroactively went into effect when I started typing this entry: I earn "procrastination points" when I work on creative vortexes, etc., and then get to "buy" procrastination with my procrastination points. Some examples of point values are as follows:

- Making one userpic (either a new one or a PrtSc Land-styled version of an old one) = +1/x procrastination point, where x is how far down the list PSL-styled or new userpics is (so if I make 3 new userpics, I get 3/44 of a procrastination point since new userpics are the 44th item on the list)
- Writing one paragraph of Moya's Space Log = +1/x procrastination point (x functions the same way as before)
- Adding or editing a line of code in a program or an object on a program form = +1/x procrastination point
- Watching 5 minutes of The X-Files, Roswell, Grey's Anatomy, etc. with [livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien = +1/x procrastination point
- Adding to one of my lists of creative vortexes = +1/10 of the procrastination points I'd get by actually making/doing whatever I wrote down

You get the idea - for everything in my to-do list, I have to define how much I need to do before I get 1/x of a procrastination point, and then keep it consistent. Getting procrastination points faster by doing things at the top of the list should encourage me to do those more, yet allow me to work on other things on my list when I get sick of working on stuff at the top.

Some example costs of procrastinating:

- Every Internet browser page load = -1 point unless I use it to work on something in my to do list. (Things that are actually important, such as checking my banking account online, will actually be put at the top of my to do list when I have to do them, so don't worry about me not getting to do something immediately important just because I don't have enough procrastination points)
- Playing video games = -1 point for every turn. What counts as a "turn" depends on the game; i.e., for some, a turn might end whenever I either beat a level or lose a life, or if I decide to play a Mario Party game or Pac-Man Party it'll be an actual turn, etc.

As you can see, it'll be just as arbitrary, yet consistent, as my earning procrastination points.

Now to see if it'll work! :)

EDIT: While it's been helping me avoid procrastination so far, it seems to be having me do too little procrastination because, now that I think about it, when I work on the first thing on my list, I should probably get more than one procrastination point for it, because that's not even enough to post one LJ comment. So, starting tomorrow (I added this part on the 19th), every instance of 1/x in the scoring is hereby replaced with 10/x. :)

Reposting this entry: priceless

[livejournal.com profile] pathvain_aelien suggested that I make a list of my ten favorite Buffy episodes so far, so here it be.

Hush
Ted
Witch THE Witch
Fear Itself
I Robot... You Jane
Something Blue
Halloween
Beer Bad
A New Man
Earshot

I'll post an updated version once I have watched every episode, and then another updated version once I have watched every episode again, because I forget which episodes some of my favorite lines are from.

Also, I never did get to play Mario Party 4 today like I said. Maybe tomorrow. :(

She alone will repost the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness

So I just now finished my Tuesdays with Morrie project. Yay!! *can have my the last four days of summer in peace*

And I've recently noticed something else that annoys me: the fact that my mom uses whatever is closest to write names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, passwords, and calculations on instead of taking the time to find something blank rather than something that might be important later on. My reasoning: For my Tuesdays with Morrie project, there is a sheet of paper that we have to fill out, and on the back we have to write why we chose the quote we chose. Mom, being... well... Mom, had written on the back of said sheet of paper, and so I had to type up the front side in WordPad instead, print it out, and write on the back of it. I don't know if points will be counted off for it yet.

Now it's Buffy time. And then Mario Party 4 time. (yes, I've recently been going through older games that aren't Super Mario World)

In every generation, there is a repost button

Dream On
Do you ever have recurring dreams? If so, are they good dreams or nightmares?

Answer View Answers

I don't really have recurring dreams, but there are two recurring themes that show up occasionally:

- Alarm clocks displaying irregular times, and I feel like I have to fix it somehow or get my mom to fix it. In my most recent one, my talking alarm clock (meaning if you press the snooze button it reads the time) displayed 7:97, and when reading the time, pronounced 7 correctly but made static noises for 97.
- Various things that are VERY easy to cheat at, but notice I'm cheating and it scares me. My most recent dream like this is one where I was playing Mario Party 8 and somehow used an item that wasn't supposed to be in the game but was apparently still in the game's coding, and M.C. Ballyhoo (the host of Mario Party 8 in case you didn't know) ended the match right there because of it.

Repost, cheater

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
