How many digits of pi have you memorized?

3.1415926535897932386... I don't remember beyond there.

GAH! That last decimal place I typed shouldn't be a 6! It should be a 4, then a 6!

So, despite my grapheme→color synesthesia, I have yet to memorize pi to more than 18 decimal places (19 digits altogether). Sad. :(

I did know that the 8 before it was the beginning of a string of six nonzero even digits and that no two adjacent digits in that string are identical, though, so I guess I can say I have log(10¹⁸ × (10/3)⁵) (because there were 3 possibilities for each of the digits after the 8) = log(411,522,633,744,855,967,078.18930041152...) = 20.614393726401687813524860483724 decimal places memorized! (or 21.614393726401687813524860483724 digits altogether) Of course, that isn't much better...

EDIT: Thanks to the Nintendo 64, I think I finally figured out a way to remember the last two of those even digits I was talking about! :D

Yeah, but I'm disappointed that even though I have grapheme→color synesthesia I still only know 21.614 digits of pi. :(

Well, from what I've seen, it's supposed to improve it, but... mine doesn't as much as I'd hoped. I'm good at math, yes, but not extraordinarily fast at it. Or good at memorization. Both of which are supposed to be characteristics of synesthetes. :(

*pats shoulder* Just because those are general characteristics of synesthetes doesn't mean your particular synesthesia manifests that way, if you know what I mean. :)

Have you made a concerted effort to memorize Pi to as many decimal places as possible? Because if not, you are holding yourself to an impossibly high standard. Most people have considerable difficulty memorizing strings of numbers greater than sixteen (four groups of four), so you are already ahead of that.

And your awesome math geekery here is so much more sexy impressive than just being able to memorize a string of random digits. :D

I have trouble memorizing more digits of pi than I already know if I try to memorize a lot at a time. Every time I try (which is only occasionally - about once or twice every year or two), I pick up a few more digits, but not many. Over the years I've gotten from 3.14 to 3.1415926 to 3.14159265 to 3.14159265358 to 3.141592653589 to 3.14159265358979323 to where I got up to in this entry. (And now that I've recently looked at the digits after the last one I memorized for the first time in a while, I've gotten up to 3.1415926535897932384626433832, so now I'm up to 28 digits! Yay!!! This is actually the most new digits I've memorized at a time...)
