matt1993: (updated prtsc land me)
So, last weekend my friend and I went to Scarborough Faire! It really felt like a trip back in time... to 2009. :P (2009 was the last time I was there, even though I apparently never posted about that time.) While I was there, I discovered a new band (Queen Anne's Lace) and new musician (Lady Prudence) that I really like, and even bought one CD of each!

...that I just discovered I can't listen to because the CD/DVD player in my computer apparently stopped working at some point between February and now. :(

(EDIT A DAY LATER: Got it working again with [livejournal.com profile] ellaina02's help! Yay! Future self, if you're reading this and having the same problem: I had to go to Device Manager and uninstall the CD drive, then restart Windows so it'd automatically reinstall. No more websites I like have gone down between my time and when you got to play Super Smash Bros. 5 at that Enya concert, have they?!)

And when I got home, I finally got to watch Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs! I've been wanting to see that ever since it came out eight years ago! :)

Also, I took this screenshot on Wednesday (I think), so it's a little outdated now, but:

I can't believe I joined LJ closer in time to when it launched than to the present. Why do I have the sudden urge to yell at kids to get off my lawn? :)

There were probably more things I wanted to post about but I forgot because I'm disappointed about not getting to listen to my new CDs yet. :(

2017!

Happy New Year! :)

Which reminds me, I still need to post about what I got for Christmas and post my usual Christmas and New Years memes...

Oh, and can we please not turn every mention of 2016 into a conversation about the bad things that happened? I know I already made a post about this, but that's just how annoyed I still am by it. I know some people need to vent about it, but I wish they'd find some other way to vent, because blaming the year is taking it too far - it's making me worried that kids who were born in 2016 are going to eventually be frequently bullied because of it. :(

You Have the Fears of a Teenager

You are still finding your footing in the world, and a lot fear stems from your own insecurity.

You feel ready to be more independent and successful, but you're worried if you can really do it.

You fear failure, and you also fear humiliating yourself. The less confident you are, the more afraid you are.

Over time you are learning that everyone is afraid... you just have to act as if you're not!

1. Comment and I'll pick one at least two of your LJ interests and draw you a picture, using MS Paint.
2. You have no say in what I draw you! Or in how much it will suck! (Which, in my case, hopefully shouldn't be too much unless I want to finish in one day...)
3. Put this in your journal. And the pic someone drew for you.

[livejournal.com profile] glowing_dragon drew this for me based on my interests of "more than 150 interests" and/or "151". All the interests listed in the picture are made up, by the way.

Paint this into your journal!"

First of all, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Enya and/or Schrödinger's Enya!!! Hope it was a good one!

In otherelated news, I'm back from my trip to Puerto Rico! Overall, the trip was great, but it was also very tiring, so I'm also glad I'm finally home :)

I understand that it's a way of celebrating the revolution, but who names their daughter Facebook? I'd understand if an Egyptian business, an Egyptian city, or to a lesser extent, Egypt itself were renamed Facebook, but a person? Won't that just make it harder for her to understand what Facebook (the site) is? After all, my 11-ish-year-old stupidity under the cut ); therefore, I can only imagine how bad such misconceptions would be for someone with the name Facebook.

Should parents be held responsible for the criminal actions of their teenage children?

Answer View Answers

That depends. If the parents have a similar criminal history, then they're probably teaching their children to do such things, so yes. Otherwise, no.

You can lead this entry to your journal, but you can't make it repost (well, you can, but shhh)

I've had a LOT of homework lately. That's why I haven't been on LJ in a while - I didn't have the time until just now. To make matters worse, our air card for high-speed Internet broke, so now we're having to resort to dial-up, which means that while using my computer, I have to switch back and forth between two uncomfortable positions: sitting on the floor, and laying on my bed looking down at my computer that's still on the floor but now has the screen upside-down so I can read it more easily. I have to type upside-down in the latter position, too, which means I type WAY slower. But at least it looks cool to scroll up and down like that :)

Several links I've been meaning to post for awhile:

A candy heart with an adult message? Really²?

A toilet video game system? Really³?

Shooting teenagers for being too mouthy? Really⁴?

matt1993: (no you're infected!)
For once, my random associations actually may have paid off!

Yesterday morning, something reminded me of something that reminded me of something else that eventually made me think about how if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns, but allowing guns to be too easy to obtain leads to family shootings, school shootings, bank robberies, and so on. Then I suddenly came up with ideas for some possible solutions to the issue! All of them involve special guns being made that only work under certain circumstances, and all other guns being outlawed:

"Should there should be any restrictions?"

Shouldn't there shouldn't be someone who fixes these typos? :P

Should this entry should be in your journal?

If cryogenics became a real, affordable option (i.e., if you could freeze your body until aging and illnesses were better understood), would you consider it? If so, do you fear you'd miss out on the wisdom that comes with growing old and dying?

Answer View Answers

cryogenics

Um, I think "cry"-ogenics are affordable already. All you have to do is take candy from a little kid. (Not that I'd do that sort of thing. Just saying it's affordable.)

Are you an oldest, youngest, middle, or only child? How do you think it has influenced your personality?

Answer View Answers

Youngest, so I'm doomed to usually be unable to understand anything said by anyone younger than me. (I mishear things older people say too, but with little kids it usually takes around five misunderstandings to figure out what they actually said.) One time a little kid said something about the Cosmic Brownie I was eating for lunch, and I thought he said something about a napkin. :(

I forgot to post this yesterday, but I've recently noticed a new thing that bugs me: when adults don't play video games enough (if at all; in this case, they just don't play it enough) to know the names of most of the characters.

My reasoning is: At the autism intervention group I go to (which I am probably the highest functioning kid at, btw), one of my friends there tried to imitate a Goomba by sticking one row of teeth out (because Goombas do have two small fangs even though they've never sucked Mario's blood), putting his arms at his side, and sidestepping. He asked me if he was doing the fangs right, but was interrupted when one of the adults came and asked what he was doing. He explained it, but that led to the adults thinking it was "Ooma" or "Oomba". Once we corrected them, another of the adults mentioned that in the real world, Goomba is a derogatory word for Italian-Americans. I told her that that was "goombah", and she just said, "Just be careful."

Anyone know where there's a tape that says "Goomba" 285,194 times?

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
