(For those of you new here: every year since I discovered http://www.museumofconceptualart.com/accomplished/index.html when I was 15, I've posted what other people accomplished when they were my age. Usually, this is a birthday post, but sometimes I forget until a little later. One time I even forgot about it until my next birthday!)

← Age 23 Age 25 →

At age 24:

Nelly Bly made a solo trip around the world in less than 80 days for the New York World, beating Phileas Fogg's fictional record.

Radioastronomy grad student Jocelyn Bell Burnell observed an unknown signal from outer space; this resulted in the discovery of pulsars.

John Couch Adams became the first person to predict the position of a planetary mass beyond Uranus.

Johannes Kepler defended the Copernican theory and described the structure of the solar system.

Entrepreneur Ted Turner took over his father's billboard advertising business. He later launched CNN.

Tracy Chapman released her first album, winning three Grammies.

Scottish physician Mungo Park became the first European to reach the West African interior.

Edgar Allen Poe won a $50 prize for the story "MS. Found in a Bottle."

Noah Webster published a spelling book.

Isaac Pitman devised the first scientific shorthand system.

Security guard Frank Wills alerted D.C. police to the Watergate break-ins.

Rainey Fellows donated a kidney to her (now ex-) boyfriend. They aren't together now, but he's doing very well. They're still friends.

Helene got a high score of 170440 in the popular online game Robot Unicorn Attack.

Tasha looked into her five-year-old son's eyes and decided to leave her abusive husband. Then she beat the odds and didn't go back even once.

David Hosei started his ninth business, eFamily.

Let me get this straight. There's a video on Nintendo's OWN YouTube channel where Matthew Patrick (a.k.a. MatPat, a.k.a. the reason your friends are telling you that Mario is mental and are bullying you for playing Mario games) creates a level for Super Mario Maker (one where you have to kill Yoshi, no less)?

This makes me wonder: does Nintendo even KNOW about ANY of the things he's said about Mario that many people are taking WAY too seriously? Because if I worked for Nintendo, I wouldn't think that having the guy who's effectively (intentionally or not) brainwashing fans to hate Nintendo's mascot appear in a video promoting Super Mario Maker (or any other game) would be a good idea.

The mere existence of this video is so paradoxical, it's probably going to destroy the fabric of space-time at any moment nof7(ny p9ru8P(URW*P(ngfrwP?O@-0o43]-0o342o/O~|.P|[p/\~L[.`?L|`.\.`(yugwp9rypfyw9y Welcome! Over the past week or so, my depression about the Forbidden Comment Threads, my ability to focus, my common sense, and my ability to speak without stumbling over words have all steadily gotten worse.

You know I've said how if I end up with too many creative vortexes stuck in my head at once, I might end up regressing? I think it's actually happening now, except most likely because of the Forbidden Comment Threads instead. I probably don't have much time left...

On some more positive notes:

- SIX new quizzes!! )

- This is my 900th entry!!! At least it is if you include my glossary. If you don't, then my next entry (whatever it happens to be) will be the 900th.

- I changed the "# comments" and "Post a comment" text in my journal to say "I glued # blenders to my face" and "Is it Saturday night already?!" (both of which are a Garfield reference or - perhaps more famously - a Square Root of Minus Garfield reference). I've been considering changing that text ever since I took Ours Will You 1-Up down and thus made "I'm #-Up"/"Will me 1-Up" stand out as oddly-phrased. (Actually, it probably stood out like that even while OWY1U was up.) And now I finally did! I also changed the current mood text to "This mood coming through", another Garfield/SROMG reference.

Glue this entry to your journal! (well, probably not all, but maybe part of it)

Welp, I have somehow managed to survive everything for 18 whole years. Go me!!

I haven't gotten my birthday presents yet, but I did go gambling for a little while ([livejournal.com profile] awehla, I mentioned in a comment that it'd be tomorrow, but the plans ended up changing). I won $63!!! And we had a party at the autism intervention group I go to!

And, of course, the usual Museum of Accomplishments post:

<s>Cake</s> cut for length )

Also, in addition to today being my birthday, this is my 700th post in this journal!! I was going to celebrate with a list of the subject lines from all 700 entries in my journal (and, for once, even my community entries!), but I left my laptop unplugged while I was typing it, and since my laptop doesn't have a low battery alarm (despite claiming that it does), I lost a lot of it and decided to give up. Maybe for my 800th or 1000th entry?

Due to my autism, it is often nearly impossible for me to find things that I need, even if I'm right next to it and/or someone is pointing right at it. Because of this, normally I have to have my mom find in two seconds something that would've taken me weeks to find.

Today, for the first time ever, the situation was reversed - Mom kept looking through my closet trying to find a pair of jeans for me to wear, and couldn't find one, and so she eventually gave up. But then, as it turns out, it was in plain sight and I found it after looking in only two places!

I doubt this means I've gotten any smarter, though, especially considering my driving skills today. If past experience continues to hold true, this will only result in me doing something really stupid tomorrow or later today. It's like the second law of thermodynamics - a decrease of entropy in one system is only possible with a greater increase of entropy in another. (And, for the record, the fact that I'm smart enough with science to know about that DOES NOT necessarily mean that I'm smart enough to drive or find stuff. Capiche?)

Now woods think Matt is stupid, but first, I'm reposting it in

If you woke up surrounded by doctors who told you that you'd been in a medical experiment since birth and that your entire life had been a dream, how do you think you'd react?

I'm not really sure; on the one hand, I wouldn't have to beat myself up over my many regrets since none of them actually happened, but on the other hand, it would mean that none of the awesome people I know (either in real life, online, or merely as celebrity crushes [i.e., Enya]) exist.

A cure for autism. Duh.

Blah blah blah anti-autist Nazis

It's hard to describe this journal in just a few paragraphs... but I'll try

Just an autistic guy born in 1993 (hence the username) who's had this journal since I was 14. Has trouble phrasing things well especially in earlier entries, so keep that in mind.

My interests have fluctuated in the 17 years since I've had this journal, but the following has remained constant:
- I like Mario games (mainly the platformers, Mario Kart, Mario Party) and Super Smash Bros.
- I like Garfield
- I like Homestar Runner
- I like Enya
- And I've always loved the idea of wacky crossovers between ANY of my interests, whether it's in the form of a short-lived webcomic in 2006-2008, a short-lived backwards lyrics site in 2008, writing down weird dreams in 2009-2011, playing Tomodachi Life a lot in 2014-2016, or what most of my posts are about these days: playing around with Character.AI starting in 2023. I still can't believe I'm actually in a world where an AI of Enya can talk to AIs of Mario or Garfield or even my favorite obscure characters like Mary O. from Super Mario Maker. :O
