Back to the... present
Sat, Sep. 2nd, 2017 22:49Well, August is over, so that means Matt1993 Nostalgia Month is over - so I changed my LJ and DW styles and userpics back to what they usually look like. (If you met me during Matt1993 Nostalgia Month and therefore don't know what I'm talking about, see this entry, or see it on DreamWidth, and then maybe see a few entries after it.)
If you do know what I'm talking about, you're probably thinking: "Waaait a minute, there's still something here that looks different from what I remember... Sure, the background went back to yellow or other yellow and Anya, Noma, Ricky, and blushy guy went back to not being as badly-drawn, but something is-- Wait, are these MY thoughts that are showing up in this entry?! Is this dork's journal reading my mind?!? I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100. It's 47. Okay, that's just scary. I'd better not start thinking about my darkest secret..."
And to all that, I say:
1) Um, the "blushy guy" is me. And the other three are Enya, Roma, and Nicky - it says so right there on the userpic. Speaking of which...
2) Yes, remember how I asked whether or not some of my userpics are legible enough and then tried to make more legible versions of some of them? But never got around to uploading those as userpics?
No, of course you don't remember, because that was years before I met at least half of you, and it's been so long that those of you who were around for it probably forgot all about it. So to refresh your memory:
one
two
three
four
Anyway... I finally got around to that - or at least, I hope I updated all the ones I meant to! Four or three years later. I still haven't even updated my sticky "list of userpics in order added" post to include these updated versions OR the 2009-style versions (retroactive or not) - or any versions of my userpics besides "what they normally looked like from late 2009 to the first half of 2017". And due to a glitch on LJ, now not even those will show up in that entry again until I edit all of the image URLs to have "https://" instead of "http://" :( *
I guess that makes me the Enya of userpic updating... But hey, I finally finished one thing I started, at least! :)
3) Don't worry, your darkest secret is safe with me. I make no guarantees about your second-darkest secret though! :P
Now to go edit every entry and comment I ever made to fix all the userpics that are broken now. :(
*They need to call HTTPS something different - I keep wanting to use that as the plural of "http". "I need to change all the https to https!" ;)

Birthday cake quiz
Sun, Aug. 13th, 2017 15:17I meant to take this quiz on my birthday, but I ended up forgetting to for 30 days :(
For some reason the text of the result isn't part of the "post to LJ" code anymore so:
(EDIT: I had the result down here, but then decided to try to put it where it's supposed to be.)

Big deal. All the mezzacotta characters have pulled off this glitch 23,976,686,407 times already! ;)
So, last weekend my friend and I went to Scarborough Faire! It really felt like a trip back in time... to 2009. :P (2009 was the last time I was there, even though I apparently never posted about that time.) While I was there, I discovered a new band (Queen Anne's Lace) and new musician (Lady Prudence) that I really like, and even bought one CD of each!
...that I just discovered I can't listen to because the CD/DVD player in my computer apparently stopped working at some point between February and now. :(
(EDIT A DAY LATER: Got it working again with
ellaina02's help! Yay! Future self, if you're reading this and having the same problem: I had to go to Device Manager and uninstall the CD drive, then restart Windows so it'd automatically reinstall. No more websites I like have gone down between my time and when you got to play Super Smash Bros. 5 at that Enya concert, have they?!)
And when I got home, I finally got to watch Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs! I've been wanting to see that ever since it came out eight years ago! :)
Also, I took this screenshot on Wednesday (I think), so it's a little outdated now, but:

I can't believe I joined LJ closer in time to when it launched than to the present. Why do I have the sudden urge to yell at kids to get off my lawn? :)
There were probably more things I wanted to post about but I forgot because I'm disappointed about not getting to listen to my new CDs yet. :(

Some more revisited quizzes
Mon, Apr. 10th, 2017 18:52(music tag should be: "Kid Icarus: Uprising soundtrack - The War's End (because who am I kidding, no one else will ever post LJ entries that aren't about the migration anymore...)")
Today is a completely uneventful day... or at least I'm going to have to try to convince myself of that if I want to stop completely freaking out.
Since this is a completely uneventful day, I'm going to finally get around to posting some things I've been meaning to post.
Here's some more of the results of when I revisited quizzes I first took years ago:
http://matt1993.livejournal.com/15256.html
I don't know why I'm bothering to revisit all-you-have-to-do-is-enter-your-name quizzes, but this time around I got:
What will your Wanted poster say?
Matt
WANTED FOR: Baking a pie with a file inside to help get your lover out of prison
REWARD: All the corn you can eat!
http://matt1993.livejournal.com/21831.html
Just how EVIL are you?
Last time I was 12% evil. Now it's 3% evil.
http://matt1993.livejournal.com/22360.html
Still Judeo-Christian
http://matt1993.livejournal.com/23410.html
Still General Hospital, but the marker was placed correctly this time
In other news, I finally got around to updating the list of amiibo I own in my LJ profile a while back - I just never posted about it until now.
And does anyone here remember the game Chip's Challenge? Well, this may be old news to some of you, but recently I found out that Chip's Challenge 2 was FINALLY released after so many years! :D

Color me midnight disappointed
Sat, Apr. 1st, 2017 23:00(music tag should be: Snippets of Mario, Kid Icarus, SSB, BtVS, Enya, Dido, Céline Dion, Sarah McLachlan, Moya Brennan, Matchbox 20, Rascal Flatts, & Savage Garden music thrown together randomly in Audacity)
This has been kind of a disappointing April Fools' Day because:
1) Homestar Runner didn't update at all today, even though they did for April Fools' Day 2014, 2015, and 2016, and April Fools and Halloween are almost the only times they ever update nowadays.
2) I don't think many people noticed my April Fools prank at all.
For reference, my April Fools prank was this entry; however, when I first posted it (on March 31 in my time zone, but late enough that it was April 1 already for some of you), it was an exact copy of my first entry. Then I waited a few minutes or so and changed it to a copy of a different past entry in the same way... then changed it to another after a few more minutes, and so on - basically, if I was at my computer, I'd change the entry anywhere from once an hour to once every few minutes. (At first. I gradually updated it less and less often because it seemed like no one was noticing...)
By "exact copy", that means including the subject line, repost button, userpic, tags, mood, music, location... basically, everything except the timestamp, the comments, and friends-only status [though, of course, the only friends-only entries I used were ones that probably would've been fine being public]. And anything that I intended to change each time but accidentally forgot sometimes. Though if I used an entry I'd posted in
_dreams_,
autism, or
asperger, I added a notice saying that it was cross-posted (even though I don't think copying a community entry to my own journal years later for April Fools' Day actually counts as cross-posting).
I chose the entries semi-randomly, sometimes by going to my Calendar for random years and months and picking a random entry I'd feel comfortable posting again, and sometimes by just putting in notable entries that I remember and wanted to include in this prank at some point. Some entries were used more than once.
And just to mess with your heads even more, I thought it might be fun to come up with a hypothetical FUTURE entry and add it into the mix! That's what the 2023 year in review is for. It ended up being my favorite thing about this prank, so I left that one up significantly longer than any other single entry.
Now that April Fools' Day is over, all the entries I ended up using are listed below for posterity. (Don't expect the repost buttons to work correctly, though...)
( The entries that you could've sworn that you'd seen already and/or that they said something completely different a few minutes ago, in order of their first use in this prank )

Quest for the Lost Images
Sun, Dec. 25th, 2016 17:41So, in the aftermath of a lot of my ScrapBook images mysteriously going missing (and the images I had hosted on Google Sites also going missing nearly two years ago*, though I have since restored the ones used before August 2009 and am in the process of restoring the rest), I have an idea:
I suggest that everyone reading this (especially those of you who are new or relatively new to my friends list) please do the following a few times:
- Pick a random year between 2007 and the present (except 2008; I only had one post that year and it has no images, broken or not), a random month, and a random day of that month
- Go to http://matt1993.livejournal.com/yyyy/mm/dd/, replacing the yyyy/mm/dd with the date you picked
- If I posted that day, read those entries to find out a) a glimpse of what I was doing in that era and b) whether or not there are any broken images in those entries. And then if there are, let me know in the comments on this one.
If at least some of you do this a few times, you'll get to learn a little more about me and I'll have a slightly easier time pinpointing just how many images in my journal are broken! (And I'll also get a better idea of how many of my entries make sense to people who haven't been here since 2009 or so!) :)
*Wait, that was nearly two years ago?!?
EDIT: Hey, LiveJournal's staff fixed it - the images show up in my ScrapBook now! I still have yet to make sure they show up in my actual entries, though. Note to self: if I come across an image that doesn't show up, press Ctrl+F5 before assuming that it's still missing.
To all of you who looked through random entries to see if there were any broken images: Thank you for the help! :)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!... and I'm beginning to look like even more of a dork than I was this time last year. :P
By the way, for some reason, a lot of the oldest images in my ScrapBook have mysteriously gone missing... That hasn't happened to anyone else, has it? :O
I don't think that's what they mean by shell sort. ;)

I had only 10 calculus problems for this weekend, but it took me about 2 hours to do them. Am I getting worse at math or is it just getting harder? (Just in case you forgot, I'm usually good at math.)

As most of you know, that means it's time for...

List of my userpics by order added
Sun, Jul. 17th, 2016 13:48As I've mentioned a while back, I plan on replacing some of my userpics with more legible versions. (even though I've procrastinated that for probably at least a year now...)
Since I knew that doing that will cause me to lose track of what order I added my userpics, I kept a list of my userpics in my profile in order added - but I'm starting to run out of room on my profile now, so I moved it here and reformatted it into a table that hopefully looks better than the old layout.
Note that this excludes the following:
- Old versions of these userpics
- Alternate versions of some of these that I made to protest SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/etc. a few years ago
( Here they are! )

HOW is the video below physically possible?!?
Sat, Sep. 5th, 2015 23:55Let me get this straight. There's a video on Nintendo's OWN YouTube channel where Matthew Patrick (a.k.a. MatPat, a.k.a. the reason your friends are telling you that Mario is mental and are bullying you for playing Mario games) creates a level for Super Mario Maker (one where you have to kill Yoshi, no less)?
This makes me wonder: does Nintendo even KNOW about ANY of the things he's said about Mario that many people are taking WAY too seriously? Because if I worked for Nintendo, I wouldn't think that having the guy who's effectively (intentionally or not) brainwashing fans to hate Nintendo's mascot appear in a video promoting Super Mario Maker (or any other game) would be a good idea.
The mere existence of this video is so paradoxical, it's probably going to destroy the fabric of space-time at any moment nof7(ny p9ru8P(URW*P(ngfrwP?O@-0o43]-0o342o/O~|.P|[p/\~L[.`?L|`.\.`(yugwp9rypfyw9y Welcome! LJ Comment Stats 2015
Wed, Aug. 19th, 2015 23:10Four things to mention:
1) I moved into my dorm today... and it was REALLY stressful, as usual. :( And I have so much to do tomorrow... I know I said I'd move into the dorm Monday, but then I found out I'd get to wait later before I moved in.
2) Last Wednesday was the 9th anniversary of the original version of PrtSc Land, and I still don't have a USB floppy drive. So remember how I said I was planning on remaking PSL and putting it up on LiveJournal starting on the 10th or 12th or (some other nice number)th anniversary? It's probably not going to be for the 10th anniversary...
3) Lately I've been working on an Excel spreadsheet with the dates, subject lines, userpic keywords, URLs, etc. of every entry I've posted on LiveJournal - AND notes on what I hope to update in each entry eventually, like adding tags, fixing broken images, etc. so that I can keep track of it all more easily. It's far from being done (even just for entries in my own journal), but I'm hoping to get all that maintenance I've been meaning to do on my old entries finished as soon as I can!
4) Today is the 8th anniversary of my LiveJournal! And, for once, I'm doing the LJ comment stats entry on time!
Although on my computer, bar graphs have lately been looking messed up in entries like this one. Does it do that for anyone else - in this or the other LJ Comment Stats entries?

Fri, Mar. 7th, 2014 22:00Does anyone know of a way that it's still possible to edit or delete an entry? Because for me, any attempt to do that leads to me being redirected to a page called "Edit Journal Entries" that allows me to choose to edit an entry... only to be redirected to that page again.
You probably noticed this entry - I was trying to write commentary on that entire entry, but I couldn't finish it all that night, so I decided to set up what I had so far as a scheduled entry to be posted exactly 5 years after I first did that meme, which would be tomorrow, and then finish it later. The problem is, I forgot to postpone it and so it was posted then, and now I can't edit or delete it. All I can do is finish that entry, post the final copy of it as a separate entry, and hope that this all makes sense to you...
There's a similar glitch with reposting,
but just in case...

I had SO much homework to do, and was so unfocused for a while when I was trying to work on it (in fact, there's still some homework left, though much less now) that I had to wait until the day right before the fifth anniversary of me posting this quiz before I scheduled the entry revisiting it.
And, actually, I still can't schedule that entry, because it looks like no quiz on Quiz Galaxy works now. All the ones I've tried (which even included the last one I revisited) will let me answer the questions, but won't show results anymore. Does it work for anyone else?
And, as you can probably tell, I haven't checked my friends page since I scheduled my last entry, either. :(

There's only two votes so far in this poll, but I gave each thing to do 1 point for each first-choice vote it has, 1/2 a point for each second-choice vote, 1/4 a point for each third-choice vote, etc., and catching up on my friends page more is currently in the lead with 1.25 points.
However, as I've mentioned in a couple of places after posting that poll, realizing how many unfinished projects I had made me depressed for a while because it sunk in even deeper that I probably will never finish all of them, and I felt even worse about abandoning most of them for two or three years. While I feel a little better about it right now, this probably isn't the best time to risk seeing much more online drama.
I'll continue reading new entries in my friends page at least once every 3 days like I've been doing (and I might read it a little more often now that I've seen the poll results), but I really think I should post the lists of non-LJ-related things I'm worried you'll hate me for and of things that remind me of the Forbidden Comment Threads fairly soon (because, remember, I probably do have to do so eventually for my mental health).
At the same time, I also don't want to wait too long before I finish catching up on my friends page, so I came up with the idea to work on both things at the same time with this method:
( Blah blah blah blah blah... )
But even that compromise doesn't seem like something I should work on right this moment given the state I've been in (but, fortunately, not this moment), although I'll probably start switching back and forth between other things and this later on when I'm in an even better mood.
The next highest project in the results is finishing those autism self-help books, with exactly 1 point, but I think right now I should go with something that I won't have a lot of time to do next semester while I still have the chance.
The third highest score is new userpics with 0.5078125 points (one second choice and one eighth choice), so for now I'm going with that :) Although that will also have to wait for a bit... I was planning on making a separate table and poll about my userpic ideas, but all I've finished so far is a list of them. (And given how I only remember some of my ideas when I'm not writing any down, I'm probably not even done with that...) So I'm gonna have to get started pretty soon!
In the meantime, here's a few videos I've been meaning to post here!
http://mostexcitingworld.com/video-helmet-camera-captures-firefighter-bringing-a-tiny-kitten-back-to-life/ - I don't think I can embed the video, but this firefighter actually took the time to revive a kitten he found. Very heartwarming! (EDIT IN 2018: The link is broken now, but I found an archived version of the article with the video still missing and the video itself separately.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bB7obyuuY8 I can't embed this either since my Internet is being slow, but these people recreated the dance scene from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Cute!
Presumably, repost just the videos and
remove all the boring stuff about my creative vortexes
