(The site that is. It's more than ten trillion years too late to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the comic. ;) )
Now I just have 449 to go... I hope there aren't many more that are as long as that one. Off the top of my head I can already think of 18 more entries that are going to take a while to fix. :(
I'm glad most of my entries aren't that long... I couldn't bear the thought of it taking another 4×449=1,796 days to fix all my entries. By July 5, 2023 (1,796 days from now) everyone probably will have left both LJ and DW and moved to a third website, and all my work would be for nothing. And every webcomic I ever read would be gone by then. :(
Weekly Miiverse Backup: Posts from June 2013
Sat, Jul. 28th, 2018 20:46If I'd been on schedule, this entry would've been posted between June 17 and 23, 2018. It's kind of hard to motivate myself to post these sometimes because I have to write the DW version of the entry, have that automatically be cross-posted to LJ, and then edit the LJ version to use the LJ copies of all the images (community icons, handwritten posts, tiny icons like the one for Yeahs, etc.)...
Hopefully it'll become easier now, though... Recently I made a little program where I can write the LJ and DW versions of an entry simultaneously, where I type into one text box and the program copies it into separate text boxes for LJ and DW; it copies text into both text boxes until it gets to a "▌" character (meaning everything until the next "▐" or "█" should be on LJ only), a "▐" character (meaning everything until the next "▌" or "█" should be on DW only), or a "█" character (meaning everything until the next "▌" or "▐" should be on both). For instance, the last word in this sentence is different on here from what it is on LiveJournal. The use of left/right half block characters makes sense to me because I typically put LJ-related tabs on the left side of my screen and DW-related tabs on the right so I can tell them apart. :)
(Though this one still took a while. Maybe I need to modify my program to add shortcuts specifically to make these Miiverse backup posts easier by making it so that if I type ☺Y☻ or ☺SSB4☻ or ☺:O☻, for instance, it'll be replaced with the Yeahs icon or the SSB4 community icon or my Mii's shocked expression, complete with it being the LJ version on LJ and the DW version on DW?)

(In addition to my first Miiverse post in over a month, this was also my first one in the Super Smash Bros. series community. The backup Nintendo sent me incorrectly says these are in the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U community, but that was the community created after the game was released, which I never posted in because by then I'd already become sick of Miiverse; the SSB series community was created after the Villager, Mega Man, and Wii Fit Trainer reveals at E3 and existed until the game was released.
( Oh boy, I remember the SSB community... )
Two more things to point out: This had the second-most comments of any of my posts on Miiverse - surpassed only by that surprisingly popular "unlikely vine, likely vine" one - and was my first Miiverse post to end up having more comments than Yeahs.)

You'd think not playing this for awhile would've helped me quit going too fast and always crashing…

Apparently there's a trend of drawing stuff in Fruit Cart. At first I thought "pointless but might as well try it" but when I started I thought "It's harder than it looks…so THAT'S why they do it!"

(That's supposed to be my Mii. I don't know why I merely said that there was a trend of people drawing "stuff" in Yoshi's Fruit Cart if the only pictures I remember anyone drawing in that game were of their Miis. I don't think my drawing turned out well... I found it hard enough to draw my Mii as it was, and then to try and do so with a single connected line...)

Whenever I have to throw stars rapidly, I end up doing so to the rhythm of the music :)

(As it turns out, this was my last post in the Nintendo Land community for whatever reason. I still haven't gotten around to 100% completing the game. Which attractions [plus the plaza] did I post about the most?
( cut for length )
Note that I did play the last three on the list, but not as often because they are multiplayer-only - and in multiplayer modes there's less opportunities to take a break to make Miiverse posts.)

Finally beat the Mini Mountaineer challenge! But if getting a gold medal for it is required to unlock anything, it still might as well be "Prove the Riemann hypothesis without touching the ground" :(

(And this was my last post in the New Super Mario Bros. U community, excluding posts about New Super Luigi U - and my only post in that community to be about Challenge Mode instead of the main adventure. Makes sense since I'd already gotten all 5 stars in the main adventure.
This was probably also my most obscure joke throughout my entire history on Miiverse, too... if you don't know what the Riemann hypothesis is, all you need to know to understand my joke is that it's a certain mathy thing that is probably true, but so difficult to definitively prove that so far no one has been able to do so. I guess I was hoping that people would at least know that, but I was wrong. This is about the only reason I know what it is, in fact.
Back to NSMBU... I still don't think I've 100% completed all of the challenges in Challenge Mode - I'm pretty sure there's still some I haven't beaten, with gold medals or otherwise.
Which New Super Mario Bros. U levels did I post about the most?
( cut for length again )
This excludes New Super Luigi U levels and cases where I can't deduce exactly which level I was playing.)
OH. OF COURSE.
Fri, Jul. 20th, 2018 03:21...Oh wow, turns out the situation is even worse than I thought it was when I started writing this entry. At least TWO webcomics I wanted to read are gone now that weren't before, because I had to find the URL for Bitmap World so I could link to it just now and it turns out it was taken down as well (but last year rather than last month). :( (And of course it HAD to be Bitmap World... in the chain of webcomics from Square Root of Minus Garfield to Request Comics that led to me discovering Irish Breakfast, Bitmap World was the only one where I still had yet to read anything except the "characters from other webcomics, including Irregular Webcomic! and Terror Island, in Bitmap World style" page and a couple other miscellaneous non-comic pages.)
At least they're both on archive.org... I'm so dependent on archive.org nowadays. If archive.org itself ever went down, I would probably DIE. If it had never existed, I probably would've died LAST YEAR. :(
Why do so many webcomic authors feel like they need to take down their stuff??? Every time that happens, I have to go visit whatever other websites I like that I can think of off the top of my head just to see if any of them are ALSO gone! O_O
So, as a tribute to Bitmap World, here's a list of all the webcomics I can think of that I wouldn't know about if they hadn't drawn both Irregular Webcomic! and Terror Island characters in their style: (NOTE TO SELF: make these links when I have the time to do so)
Bitmap World itself
Terror Island
Triangle and Robert (which is another one that's went down but I knew about that already, and it's one of the few to go down AFTER I got to read it all the way through)
FOMS
Request Comics
tiny ghosts
Irish Breakfast
Nutflix (I haven't read that either but wanted to, but I checked just now and I think that's also gone now. THAT MAKES THREE. :( )
Tall Comics (I haven't read that either but want to)
I know there's at least one more but I don't have the time to try and find the name of it.
And you know that made me upset because even though I've never used Photobucket for image hosting, a lot of things online I wanted to catch up on someday have used Photobucket, and that would mean I'd never get to finish catching up on them?
And you know how I've made various jabs at Photobucket because of it such as claiming that Photobucket managed to even take down my userpics on LJ but not on DW (or vice versa depending on what site you read my April Fools entries on) and being like "These people think Quidd is the worst company ever - haven't they ever heard of Photobucket?!"
Um.
So today I was working on fixing my old entries, and I got to one* that does have an image hosted on Photobucket in it (because it was uploaded by
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Then I went to a couple of other places on the Internet that I'd been to before that I knew had Photobucket images in them because they became broken when Photobucket changed their TOS.
THOSE IMAGES SHOW UP NOW TOO. (I haven't seen any "3rd-party hosting disabled" placeholder images, anyway - images that users have deleted entirely are obviously still gone.)
...
I need to ask...
Did, uh...
DID PHOTOBUCKET FINALLY COME TO THEIR SENSES?! I'd Google it to find out for myself but I'm too afraid of finding more online drama that'll upset me. (Yes, even when I thought Photobucket was the one company that actually deserved the hate it was getting for changing their TOS, I still couldn't always bear to read it.)
Even the thought that Photobucket MIGHT have realized their mistake is so surreal... I feel like I'm dreaming. I might as well act like this is all a dream, but I can't do that right now because I'm supposed to take Enya to see another Enya perform live at 103:206 PM. :P
*Note: yes, that entry mentions that I was doing an MS Paint meme but I gave up on that years ago because I procrastinated it for so long and felt overwhelmed by it. :(
TWENTY-FIVE!

(Original Garfield strip: June 19, 2003)
Hmm... Seeing those three versions of myself in one room like that really makes it stand out that the modern sprite version of myself has a skin tone noticeably darker than my real skin tone. Oh well.
Garfaversary
Thu, Jun. 21st, 2018 19:06I still remember back when Garfield's 25th anniversary was pretty recent. I was REALLY obsessed with Garfield in that era (2003-2004)... I can't believe that era was fifteen years ago. (Or that, interestingly enough, I'm going to be 25 in less than a month!)
Mini-rant time: I kinda don't like how there are soooo many people nowadays (especially authors of other comics I like) who think that Garfield is objectively never funny, or objectively less funny than it used to be, or what have you... because of them (and especially because of how, at least in 2013-2015 or so, Square Root of Minus Garfield steadily became less about what I liked about it - surreal, often mathematical mashups of Garfield strips - and more of a place for people to edit Garfield comics to insult fans of whatever they don't like, which is more often than not Garfield itself), I feel like I'm not allowed to like what I like. Not even the fact that I know there's plenty of Garfield fans in my LJ friends list keeps me from worrying about it. :( And yes, a big part of why I'm posting this entry is so hopefully I can finally get this off my chest after worrying about it sporadically for the past several years.
EDIT: And now that the YouTube video that made me worry about this the most recently and motivated me to post a mini-rant like this showed up in related videos a second time, might as well link to it in this entry.
Being the Nintendo nerd I am, ever since the first Super Smash Bros. I sometimes tried to imagine what it would be like if various characters (video game or otherwise) that weren't playable in any SSB games yet were.
But I don't think I've ever come up with a complete moveset for one until now. Usually all I think of is:
- "What would Kirby look like if he copied this character?"
- "What would this character's alternate costumes be?"
- (for characters who aren't from a series that's already in the game) "What would this character's series symbol be?"
- MAYBE a game mechanic that would be unique to that one character
- MAYBE taunts and MAYBE special moves and a Final Smash.
And usually I don't write about or draw any of these ideas either - just think about it.
But lately, due to my constantly being obsessed with Mary O. (who unfortunately is still obscure enough that I feel like I have to link to that article again), I've been thinking more and more about what it'd be like if she and Yamamura were playable in Super Smash Bros. as a 2-in-1 character similar to Duck Hunt.
In fact I first thought of this idea at some point before April Fools' Day 2017 (see the music tag for that entry), but lately I've been thinking more and more about how this could work, enough that I think I have ideas for their entire hypothetical moveset by now.
And I keep thinking about said moveset so much that writing an entry about it is probably the only way I'm ever going to stop being so distracted thinking about it, even though I doubt it'd be interesting to anyone here (none of you are as obsessed with Mary O. as I am, and a lot of you probably aren't even into Super Smash Bros. enough for this to be of interest to you). So I'll LJ-cut it so I won't bore you. :)
( Blah blah blah Mary O. moving sideways )
It feels so weird that I've put all this thought into making an entire moveset and such for Mary O. & Yamamura for literally no reason since I doubt I'd be making a Super Smash Bros. fangame or hack anytime soon... and it feels especially weird to actually be typing out this ridiculous idea after spending so much time only thinking about it...
Well, now you know what goes on inside my head! :P
The past is slightly less gone!
Sun, Jun. 10th, 2018 00:48Hopefully there's not any mistakes in that list... if there are, let me know. :)
I'm still going to make these Miiverse backup entries the same way I was going to (because who knows if they're ALL on archive.org, and even if they are, it'd be easier to find them in these entries, and I like getting to add commentary about some of them in retrospect), but...wow. I can still access so much content on Miiverse that I thought was gone forever! Maybe I'll go back later on and edit these entries to include not just how MANY comments I had on my Miiverse posts, but exactly what those comments were if I can find them!

(Note that this is nearly a year before they introduced stamps for certain games, and even after the stamp update there never were any stamps for NSMBU. I first made this on my computer in Paint by taking the sprite [from a Mario spritesheet I got from spriters-resource.com that had been saved on my computer ever since the days of PrtSc Land] and recoloring it to grayscale and resizing to 500%, then I replaced all the gray pixels with different patterns of black and white stripes. Then I recreated the whole thing pixel-by-pixel on Miiverse. I don't remember how long it took.
Also this is the first of the only two times I made [non-reply] Miiverse posts with no words in them!
And with sixteen Yeahs, I think it's safe to say that this post had the second-most Yeahs of any post I made, second only to the surprisingly popular "unlikely vine, likely vine" one.)

After you're out of lives, you can still tilt and move lifts to guide your remains thru the level!

(I know it's supposed to be "through" but I don't think that would have fit in the 100-character limit Miiverse had at the time.)

This time I got TOO enthusiastic about getting past the 1st areas quickly. Only made it to Area 2...

(At this point I was intending to make a post like this for every multiple of 250 Yeahs up to at least 1,000 - possibly up to 2,000 - then doing it every 500 or 1,000 Yeahs after that. But eventually I forgot about all of this and 250 Yeahs was the only milestone I ended up celebrating.
I don't know how many Yeahs I had by the time Miiverse shut down - I've said before that it was 1,788, but from archive.org it looks like that's actually how many Yeahs *I* gave to *other* people's posts. Now I'm hoping I didn't make the same incorrect assumption when I posted this...
If I counted right, all my posts before this one had a combined total of 307 Yeahs by the time Miiverse shut down. So a lot of those posts probably got more Yeahs even after this one was posted.
Right after this post, I went eight days in a row without posting to Miiverse [except MAYBE replies] - beating out my previous-longest hiatus by one day.)

Getting to the end still isn't easy even w/o having to worry about the first 2 Star Coins…

(Right after THIS post, I would end up breaking that hiatus record AGAIN by going 20 days without making any Miiverse posts [again, with the possible exception of replies]. And yes, we were still having trouble with this level... we'd beaten it once, but we still had to go back for the last Star Coin eventually.)
Oh well, here's the last four of my 33 Miiverse posts in 2012! :)

Finally made it to Stage 3!

1-player mode as Pikmin: In Soviet Russia, Olimar follow YOU!

(This is probably the first Soviet Russia joke I ever made - not just on Miiverse, but ever. I used to find them overused along with many other Internet memes that I hadn't heard of before 2008 or so and didn't understand, but then when I discovered mezzacotta in 2011, I really liked how certain characters make surreal Soviet Russia jokes - with this one probably being the most famous - and decided Soviet Russia jokes in general weren't so bad after all. Most of the Internet memes that annoyed me back then are a lot funnier than certain more recent Internet memes...)

← 12/29/2012 5:30 PM-midnight 12/30/2012 9:30-11:00 PM →

( This was marked as a spoiler on Miiverse )

That final boss was really clever, but hard. I didn't use a single continue until there!

We got all 3 Star Coins, like a... guy who can't think of a rhyme related to this level?

WARNING: Collecting all 3 Star Coins somehow resulted in forgetting where the last 2 were.

Why does it rarely ask me to post here unless I've got nothing interesting to say or draw?

(Strange how this post, which is just me saying that I had nothing interesting to say about that level, had more Yeahs than some of my other posts do...)

Does anyone else subconsciously walk forward a bit in real life when their Mii's moving too slowly?

(Fun fact: I can no longer read the words "Crash Course" without thinking of Super Mario Maker Crash Course. Yes, I'm THAT obsessed with Mary O. :) )

(This is the first thing I posted to Miiverse that is also something I considered making into a userpic! Though since I'm a procrastinator, I didn't actually make the userpic. I see it's not even in my current ideas file, but maybe I should readd it?)
LJezzacotta (or DWezzacotta) meme!
Fri, Jan. 19th, 2018 17:00Anyway...
1) Look at the mezzacotta strip from your birthdate:
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=1993-07-14
2) Look at the strip(s) from the day you joined LJ and/or DW and/or any other blogging site you use regularly - if you don't know when that is, you can go to your profile and find out (at least for LJ and DW):
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=2007-08-19 (LJ)
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=2017-05-13 (DW)
3) Optionally, also look at the strip(s) from any other dates that are significant to you!
I'll skip this step, though - while there are many other dates that are significant to me for whatever reason, I think I'll just use my birthdate and the dates I joined LJ/DW for this.
4) Put in the same dates from steps 1-3 again but with AD changed to BC. You can do this just by putting a minus sign before the year in the URL:
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-1993-07-14
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-2007-08-19
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-2017-05-13
5) Put in the dates from steps 1-4 again, but replace the years with the last two digits of them:
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=93-07-14
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=7-08-19
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=17-05-13 (...so is he going to show me or not? :) )
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-93-07-14
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-7-08-19 (A hair restorer on leeches?)
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-17-05-13 (I guess a penny isn't enough.)
6) Now take the dates from steps 1-3 and replace the year with your LJ and/or DW (and/or other blogging site) user ID! On LJ and DW at least, that's also on your profile.
(Any time I say to replace the year with a number that isn't a year like your user ID, do this for both BC and AD if the AD version exists [i.e. the number is between 1 and the current year]. If it doesn't - which it won't 99.9% of the time - then just use BC.)
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-13627499-07-14
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-13627499-08-19 (I'd say that's changing focus more than just "a bit". :P )
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-13627499-05-13 (Yes, I even combined my LJ user ID with the date I joined DW and vice versa. Because that makes a lot more sense than the strip I got by doing so!)
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-3192525-07-14
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-3192525-08-19
http://mezzacotta.net/archive.php?date=-3192525-05-13 (The first panel of this one is the best part.)
( these next few are so mathy, they're under a cut )
If any of these methods gives you an invalid date:
Year with leading zeroes - remove the leading zeroes.
Year is 0 - use 9999999999999 BC (13 nines), 1 BC, and/or 1 AD instead. Or, if this happens in step 5, replacing it with 100 BC/AD makes sense too.
February 29 in a year that doesn't have one - use February 28 and/or March 1 of that year instead.
Super Mario Maker Crash Course Minus Yamamura!
Tue, Jan. 2nd, 2018 22:37So, uh... This is a little Garfield Minus Garfield-esque idea I thought of about two years ago, back when the Super Mario Maker Crash Course comics were new.
( brief history of this idea and the two places I was thinking about using it in eventually, but didn’t )
Anyway, after two years, my patience has finally run out... I wanted SO BADLY to show that removing Yamamura has about the same effect on Mary O. that removing Garfield has on Jon, I decided I'm not gonna save it for PrtSc Land or iToons after all - I'd just make it NOW and post it here, while there's still at least a chance that no one else has made something similar already.
Though I'm probably safe, because really, has ANYONE else ever been obsessed enough with Mary O. to make this? Does anyone else even know who she IS? :P
Original strip: Super Mario Maker Crash Course Episode 1
Super Mario Maker Crash Course Minus Yamamura: (NOTE: Due to the large image size, it may be broken in this entry, but it will not be if you click on it)

(And no, I'm not going to do this with the other episodes of the comic - it probably only works with the first one, and even then only because I cheated a little and added an extra line for Mary O. :) )
Wait, I got it! 2018 must be like a secret bonus world or something! :P
Happy New Year, everyone! And happy 10,000,000,002,016th anniversary, mezzacotta! ;)
WHY HAPPENING?
Sat, Nov. 4th, 2017 15:11Well, now I can't even do THAT anymore - the images are broken on Photobucket itself now! I'm not sure whether that's because I switched computers or whether it's because Photobucket somehow made their Terms of Service even WORSE, but one thing is for sure:
I SHOULD NEVER HAVE PUT OFF CHECKING MY FRIENDS PAGE OR ANY OF THE WEBCOMICS I USED TO READ BACK IN 2011-2013. Pretending I've gone back in time to finish all of that sooner is not going to cut it. Even if I also link to the DW version of the entry I just linked to.
I should've at least started catching up earlier than 2015... When I played Super Smash Bros. for 3DS for the first time, I played All-Star Mode, and hearing this soothing but slightly sad-sounding music in between rounds and seeing the years the characters debuted (especially when they were years I was around for, especially especially when it was as recent as 2001-2006 or 2007-2013) written on a wall in what looks like ancient ruins really gave me the feels the first time around and made me think about how long I'd been putting off the stuff I wanted to catch up on - why didn't I start my trip through memory lane THEN (besides the fact that I was still super excited to finally play that game)? If I had, I might actually be done by now!
I feel like the world (especially the Internet) is just becoming more and more destroyed by the minute... not only that, I've been feeling like I'VE let the world get destroyed by waiting all the way until 2015 to start catching up on everything I wanted to catch up on! I know that sounds silly, but it also sounds exactly like how I feel every time something else I could've seen years ago but didn't disappears. Which is ALWAYS.
Well, FINE!! If you can't beat the fact that half of the Internet looks like Comments on a Postcard fanstuff now, JOIN the fact that half of the Internet looks like Comments on a Postcard fanstuff now!
Check out these Miis I just made of the COAP cast:

EDIT: How'd I forget Margaret considering that I think I did a better job on her Mii than any of the others??

This is what the last few months have felt like

Silly reference to my first entry ever aside, yes, I'm done copying all my LJ entries to DreamWidth! Well, except for community entries... and making sure that all of my entries copied over the way they're supposed to... I still have a long ways to go. My LJ was kind of a non-Euclidean mess already, and now I'm having to make sure that nothing looks too weird when it was transferred to DreamWidth. If you see anything that looks like it didn't copy over correctly, let me know.
Now I'm going to test to see what happens if I post a poll in a DW entry that gets cross-posted to LJ...
