Super Mario Maker 2 has been updated?!

Oh man!!! Could this be the day that Nintendo FINALLY brings back Mary O.?! It's probably too late to have her be part of the tutorial, but maybe there could be DLC jobs in the story mode and some of them could be by her?? Or at the very least, a Mary O. Mii costume as DLC??

...oh. I see Nintendo still doesn't care about the feelings of Mary O. fanboys like me. (Unless Mary O. is one of the "official makers" like she was in the first SMM, but I think we all know that won't be the case.) :(


I know I complain about this a lot, but seriously, how come almost every character from the first Super Mario Maker's interface - Undodog, Yamamura, even the likes of Mr. Eraser and Coursebot and Soundfrog for crying out loud - is not only in Super Mario Maker 2 but has also been given more personality than ever before, but Mary O. has been replaced and Nintendo STILL hasn't so much as acknowledged her existence or told us why she was replaced? :(

Considering how the Super Crown and Peachette keep appearing in more and more games even though I thought Nintendo learned their lesson after all those Super Crown memes, I can only assume that someone at Nintendo said "Let's NEVER put the Super Crown in another game again; it's making us look bad" and someone else somehow misheard "the Super Crown" as "Mary O."

sexism probably. female characters get the worst deals.

Seeing as the replacement for Mary O. is a new female character (Nina), and Nintendo's been giving certain female Mario characters who used to be minor characters more prominent roles lately (Toadette being finally playable in major Mario platformers [one of which being the same game that replaced Mary O., for that matter], Pauline being playable for the first and second times ever and having an important supporting role in Super Mario Odyssey, etc.), it doesn't feel so much like sexism as it feels like Nintendo not thinking that this one specific character has a fanbase. And I can't really blame them for thinking that, because she was just a side character after all. But I thought she was interesting and I wanted her to someday be more than a side character and now she's not even a side character anymore.

I hope you don't think I'm sexist because my reasons for wanting to see Mary O. in another game are less "there need to be more female characters in video games" and more because I have a crush on her and I find her personality relatable. :(

Not at all.

I do think she'd be treated better as a minority background character if she were a male one though. As evidenced by other minor male characters, that is all.

Well, it has only been four and a half months since it was revealed that Mary O. might not be in Super Mario Maker 2. Of course it feels like years to ME, because I'd gotten so attached to her, but (and this is my opinion) I still think it's a bit early to call it sexism. Especially seeing as her replacement is also female.

Nintendo's had a long history of letting characters (male AND female) who appeared maybe once or twice fade into obscurity for years and then suddenly return when their fans least expect it. So, hopefully that means Mary O. will be in another game someday. (I'd prefer for it to NOT take years, but oh well...)
