Everything's cool when you don't have homework and aren't constantly being reminded of the FCT!

Sorry I haven't posted or checked my friends page in a while - I once again had so much homework pile up on me at once that a) I didn't have much free time and b) whenever I did, I was so tired of having to work on stuff that I ended up spending it playing video games instead.

Not only that, but the past two weeks in Psychology class, we discussed the chapter that reminded me of the Forbidden Comment Threads the most when I glanced at random pages from my textbook... *shudder* Gender, Sex, and Sexuality.

Luckily, only one argument ever happened throughout all the class sessions about that chapter, I managed to stay out of it, and it wasn't even bad enough that anyone who's even slightly more emotionally stable than I am is likely to also count it as an argument. But there were still a lot of things said in the textbook and the lectures that reminded me of the FCT... *shudder*


At least we're done with that chapter, and it's Spring Break now!!! And I got to see The LEGO Movie yesterday!!


Hopefully, I'll make progress on something this Spring Break...

I rant a lot about feminism in my LJ (or so I think?) so I hope that doesn't bother you if you read my posts.

When I started catching up on my friends page, I had to exclude four tags from two journals so I could do so without seeing too many things that reminded me of the Forbidden Comment Threads, and the "feminism" tag in your journal was actually one of them. Now that I've doen that, though, it doesn't bother me very much :)

If I know which threads you're thinking about, I believe I stopped participating in that community for the same set of threads (or because of the same people).

It actually was never a trigger for me at all until the Forbidden Comment Threads (and even now, it's not always one). I always felt that either it's my fault that it's even sometimes a trigger now, or that a lot of my friends will think it's my fault and hate me for it. Maybe one of those things is still true, I dunno...

Sweetie, no one can blame you for having a trigger; it isn't a failing, it is just a fact. And in that whole wretched mess, you were one of the few people who kept their head straight and didn't get sucked into battle. That's certainly better than I did. It was ugly, and you handled it more reasonably than most. If anyone hated you for anything you did related to that, then they have a problem, because you did nothing wrong. It seems, in retrospect, like that sort of factional breakdown had been brewing on the community in question for a while.

I just wish you'd stop beating yourself up for stuff, I have yet to see an instance where you were really even out of line, but everyone who has ever commented on the internet has been yelled at by someone. People seem to let their worst impulses run riot online, I think it is because of the relatively anonymous nature of the internet. Even using my actual name as a screen name, I tend to say things online that I wouldn't seriously consider saying in "real life," even though I very well know the potential consequences.

Well, all that said, have a lovely spring break! I hope you enjoyed the movie, people have been raving about it. :D

I still have to worry about the possibility of some of my LJ friends thinking otherwise, though - especially considering exactly what the trigger is...

On a related and kinda funny (but also not a very good sign) note, not only are words like "sexist" also triggers a lot of the time, one time I was reading something - I don't remember what, but I think it was a readme file for something I downloaded for one of my computer classes - and I glanced at a word that looked like "sexist" and it made me a bit depressed about the Forbidden Comment Threads even after I noticed that it was actually "exist". In fact, now that that's happened, the word "exist" has the potential to remind me of the FCT even if I read it correctly the first time...

I have! I would encourage you to do something absolutely berserk, but I have been instructed (repeatedly) that it is not nice to encourage people to do bad things for my amusement.

*sigh* I guess I'll just keep waiting, then. :P

What I meant was there are some things I've said in the past outside of LJ that are definitely worse than anything I've said on LJ (and also some that I think might be, but also might not be), and I plan on mentioning them in a list similar to the one I made for things that were from LJ. When I say "Just wait..." I mean wait until I get to post it.

It'll be a while until I post it (as much as I'd like for it not to be a while), though. I've decided that I should only post that list, the list of things that shouldn't remind me of the FCT but do, or the list of newer LJ-related things I'm worried about after I'm done writing all of them. Yes, it'll take longer that way, but when I posted the LJ-related worries up to and including August 2013 without finishing the other lists first, I discovered that I'm going to need to update it now that I've said more things on LJ that I'm kinda worried about.

I hope this makes sense...

It makes sense, in the context of you, but I still think you worry far too much about things you have said and done in the past. We all do and say things that we wish we hadn't, but only jerks judge a person on some random thing they did or said in the past, rather than who they are now. And only hypocrites judge people harshly for their mistakes, because we all screw up.

If those are the kind of people you are worried about, pff, you are probably better off without them. If you are worried about nice people hating you, it probably isn't going to happen, because you are a nice person, and it shows.
