The funniest three things I ever heard today:

So, I have a project in reading class where I have to pick four quotes in Night that have to do with one of the symbols in the book and explain each quote. I picked fire as the symbol, and had asked pathvain_aelien if she could help me with it, and she agreed, but then she said she doesn't remember any instances of fire in Night. Then this happened:

ME: (something about the part where Mrs. Schächter says, "Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire!")
PATHVAIN_AELIEN: Wait, what?
ME: You know, that woman on the bus who--
PATHVAIN_AELIEN: Did you just call her Trogdor?

Later on, when pathvain_aelien was getting something:

PATHVAIN_AELIEN'S BOYFRIEND: Come on, Trogdor!

Even later, when we were talking about the project again:

PATHVAIN_AELIEN'S BOYFRIEND: Is Trogdor a symbol?

Sure, the Trogdor comes in the night, but not the one by Elie Wiesel.

(Explanation to anyone besides us who happens to revisit this entry even later than we did: Some drama on LJ that happened much later made it seem not only plausible, but likely, that a lot of my old entries and comments - including this one - might make people, even my LJ friends, hate me, so I linked to all of the posts that I was worried about.)

Um, what about the fact that I made a joke, at all, about a very serious novel (even if it's less related to the novel itself and more to Mrs. Schächter's name being misheard as Trogdor)?

It turns out no one's actually offended by this yet, yes, but that's why I was worried about this...

Because people make jokes about EVERYTHING. I make jokes about serious novels/movies/things that happen because that is what humans do. In fact, I am the one that made the joke about Trogdor, but it doesn't mean that I don't think the things in the book were funny or don't take them seriously. I do. Jokes are completely allowed so humans don't go insane from the depression of everything bad that's happened.
