No it won't. Some laws may change some access rights in some countries. That is all. AS an adult, you will be impacted the least.

Well, I am an adult, but these laws apply to anything that it considers to be "for kids", and that first video (or what I saw of it, anyway) made it clear that their definition of "for kids" is very broad and includes anything that kids may be interested in even if it's not strictly meant for kids (e.g. adult-oriented material that happens to be based on kid-friendly video games or cartoons or otherwise have colorful characters in it). Which means a lot of YouTube channels that I like. And I've heard that this just doesn't affect YouTube - it affects the whole Internet! O_O

It is probs just gonna mean more settings where you confirm your age and that determines what you access. Channels like the above are trying to scores hits and likes by blowing it out of the water but it is just about protecting kids.

It should be about protecting kids, yes. But I'm still scared that the definition of "for kids" is so broad that it might lead to things I enjoy being taken down without even a good reason.

And if, as at least one commenter said, this applies to more than just YouTube, I'm VERY scared of what might happen to DeviantArt. I hope I don't have to explain why...

The last time we thought the internet might collapse was when the EU introduced laws. That hasn't happened. I honestly think things will be ok because history has proven that it will be and that no one can really control the net.

I HOPE things will be okay. I know history has shown that so far no one can control the Internet, but:
A) There have been some close calls in the past, like SOPA/PIPA and ACTA
B) Even if no one manages to control the whole Internet, certain websites can still make drastic changes that (directly or indirectly) lead to a lot of content being taken down. We've seen that happen already with LJ, Tumblr, Photobucket (for a while)... it's even happened already with some YouTube channels!

the internet is never going to be how it was when you found it. ppl can't pay to keep their sites up, people don't WANT to keep their content up. You need to come to terms with that. Because not doing that is only hurting yourself.

I know it's never going to be exactly how it was when I found it, but I'd like to not have to worry about the possibility of anything on the Internet I like - or even ALL of it - being taken down (by their creators or otherwise) the next time I turn around.

And it's harder to cope with it if a whole bunch of worrisome things happen at once, like what's happening right now (a webcomic I like gets broken due to a PHP upgrade, possibly may not be fixable, and then right after that it turns out that there's new laws that might go into effect on YouTube that might unintentionally hurt channels I like).

Because it DID exist, once, but I didn't get around to seeing it at that point because I still can't cope well with the fact that years ago I made the mistake of going on a long hiatus from several sites I enjoyed.

I'm accepting the fact that there's already a lot that I permanently missed out on seeing because of it. But I'd like to be able to catch up on what I can before any more of it disappears. :(
